[Guide/Warning] Watch out with slotmachines & casino's!

  1. And a small bump.

This evening Aya was helping me on SMP4 with working out examples for my upcoming guide while we were once again confronted by players who were upset because they lost a huge chunk of their money while playing in a casino. Even somewhat accusing the owner of scamming.

Fortunately staff seems to have gotten involved and no scamming happened (it was a staff approved game) but even so I can well understand that players become upset over all this. There is a reason why gambling isn't allowed if you're under aged in real life (I'm not saying that this applied here mind you).

And so.... A small bump it is.

  2. EMC rules require that all odds be posted for any gambling game. While your point may still be valid, using the word rigged is misleading, as if the game creator/owner is hiding something from players (due to EMC rules, they can't hide stuff like that).

  3. I got to say, staff are FORCING us to put the CHANCES up clear with the RULES. I had to wait 2 week so a redstone genius staff (if I can call it like that) looks at the builds. So it's a little of the player's fault.

I made it at a rate of 1:1 so I don't get accused of scamming like you highlighted but yeah there should defenitly be a new player post saying not to gamble in casino as a way to make profit.

Why do 1:1 ? Because I like redstone, making an automatic game is the best thing you can do with automatic farms too.

  4. True, but still some players might put up a fake sign saying it was approved by staff. You never know if that could be the case.
  5. Some of my old redstone designs used to be random, but server updates and tick-speed changes made them predictable and repeat.

    ------

There are a fewer designs, though, that still allow for true randomization (Though it's based on the amount of items you use to change the percentage being split)

ie) if a stackable item and non stackable item are used - it will be exactly 50/50

if two (different) stackable items are used and one non-stackable - it will be 1/3 more likely to go to the stackable item side ... 66 / 33

if two (same) stackable items are used, it will over-ride the ability for the non-stackable to move... 100 / 0

    ------

That's not to say those percentages couldn't come in handy - higher chance games should have a lower chance for the higher-prized options, thus making it harder to obtain...

  6. Yeah I love making automatic machines too.
  7. First: thanks a bunch for your input guys! This gave me an idea which we might be able to work on. I won't share just now because it could create false expectations and well: even though I may think its a good idea it could have horrible consequences; so first this needs to be discussed and verified.

If it turns out to be useful then I will share, and if not... oh well, then maybe next time :)

  8. Well, you can sell your stuff to big malls :)
  9. Yes, this thread is old but that's the beauty of it now that we got our own guides forum.

I can't help notice a drastic increase in (in-game) advertisements for casino's and gambling. I have my own (skeptical) opinions about those, but I also still stand behind my opinion that it's much better for players to find out about the effects of those machines in-game than in real life.

Sometimes I might make a skeptical comment about peoples advertisement with "win money!" but I restrict myself on doing so to my home server only (and don't worry, it's not as if I talk down on every advertisement).

And the rest? Those are covered in this guide, which I'm now bumping because of previously mentioned increase in gambling advertisements.

  10. I don't mind casinos. Some are okay. My only advice is to look at the signs on the machines to make sure it's approved then you know it's a working machine that won't rip you off. If you don't see a sign with this layout

don't play. An un-approved machine is likely to steal your money without you gaining anything. Some staff use a different layout so I'm going to post a second one I've seen.

  11. Those signs are placed as a courtesy by staff and are really easy for anyone to place, so take them with a grain of salt on their own.

What you should do when you see one of those signs is to compare it to the approved player games page to make sure it's authentic. That page is controlled only by staff and is the authority on EMC in whether or not a game is actually approved.

If the sign is placed by staff there will be a corresponding entry for their residence and game on that page. If there is no entry by staff then there's a really strong chance the sign is fake. and a really tiny chance we got slammed and forgot to update the page.

Please contact staff at any time should you have any questions regarding the legitimacy of games or signs on games claiming staff approval when no player games page entry exist. Also goes without saying to not confront players about this should you believe there to be an issue.
  12. Lol, i dont see the birb's casino in that page, and is one of the most used in smp8

  13. ...considering I approved two of them personally, please excuse me while I get a crowbar so I can get my foot out of my mouth.
