I didn't know that expression, I only know throwing your towel in the ring. (Which means the opposite!)

Haha, it was an older expression. Used when there were something like an election. A physical ring was on the groud and to get in the election you threw your hat in.

Yep, all 16 slots are filled now. But the good news is we've already got the next couple games lined up after this one
