The town of Centralia used to have zipcode 17927, but after a coal mine fire the town died out, until less than 20 people lived there. The postal service decided to revoke the zipcode, to the dismay of some of the people still living in Centralia. Of course, you can still send mail to them, you just need to use the zipcode of the neighbouring town of Ashland.
