1.9 Weapons and Shield

  1. Hello, 1.9 allows you to use your second hand and introduces more ways for combat. Here is the information you may want so you can easily compare and contrast the best set-ups. I will be using diamond gear as they are the most used.
    Before we begin...
    1 damage = 1/2 heart
    You cannot use weapons such as swords in your off-hand
    • Sword
      • Damage: 7 (3 1/2 hearts)
      • .625 second recover speed
        • 11.2 Damage Per Second
      • Special Ability: Sweep attack
        • Damage enemies by 1 (1/2 a heart) and knock them back
        • Can't be moving no faster than walking speed
    • Axe
      • Damage: 9 (4 1/2 hearts)
      • 1 second recover speed
        • 9 Damage Per Second
      • Special Ability: Disable Shield (5 seconds)
        • Base of 25% chance of disabling the shield
        • +5% per level of efficiency
        • +75% if attacking while sprinting
    • Shovel
      • Damage: 5.5 (2 1/2 hearts)
      • 1 second recover speed
        • 5.5 Damage Per Second
      • No Special Ability
    • Pickaxe
      • Damage: 5 (2 1/2 hearts)
      • .83 second recover speed
        • 6 Damage Per Second
      • No Special Ability
    • Hoe
      • Damage: 1 (1/2 heart)
      • .25 second recover speed
        • 4 Damage Per Second
      • No special Ability
    • Fist
      • Damage 1 (1/2 heart)
      • .2 second recover speed
        • 4 Damage Per Second
      • No Special Ability
    Now for the shield:

    • Shield
      • Causes arrows to ricochet and possibly hit other players/mobs
      • 33% damage taken for melee attacks
      • No damage taken for ranged attacks
    Potions:

    • Normal Potion
      • Just drink it and get the effect
    • Throwable Potion
      • Throw it to make others get the effect
    • Lingering Potion
      • Throw it to make others get the effect, lingers in area
    Arrows:

    • Only normal arrows are affected by Infinity enchantment
    • Tipped Arrows
      • When they hit a player or mob, the effect lasts 1/8 as long as the potion's duration
      • Spectral Arrow makes players or mobs visible through blocks with the Glowing effect for 10 seconds
    The Spectral Arrow will be useful for the minibosses and the wither boss.

  4. I'm not a fan of the recovery time between hits. Kind of a hassle for non afk farms.
  5. 1.9 sucks. You all will rue the day of the 1.9 praise when it's actually released. Nice post, though.
  6. Bow is able to be in off hand right? b/c if you hold sword with looting and shoot with bow it registers the looting w/o taking any sword damage.
