smp7 - jungle outpost

  1. I should just mention that I'm responsible for the location of the building being talked about. When he first joined the LLO, I took him around and offered the location that the building currently stands on. I wasn't quite expecting him to build on the corner, or to build a house with a big 'bubble' on top. :p

So, yeah, I'll just leave that here.
  2. Let's take it to the air instead of destroying it :3
  3. Penfoldex and I have been talking today, and we've come up with a few LLO expansion and member recruitment ideas.

We started off considering what the current generation of newer members like. And they're all here for the economy, and not many of them are very, wild orientated. All of the older EMC members will have heard of the LLO and will have either joined, not joined or have left now. So we though about what would bring newer EMC members to the LLO. And we though, maybe we should create a bit of an economy, or create some kind of wild tourism industry.

We know that the LLO isn't an economy orientated outpost, and it can stay like that, but it does need to change a bit, to attract more people. Right now, it has this very, abandoned feeling about it. Nothing much happens, there is activity in the very northern districts, but it's from the same few people.

Some of our ideas included opening some resorts or attractions, to bring people out at least temporarily. We also considered expanding Jakres' mall area in the west top create an economic zone. Penfoldex had the idea if creating a canal district, and we decided that the swamp just to the west of the stadium would be a good location.

I am also wanting to start work on the LLO University and Museum in the forest to the west of the aforementioned swamp. The museum will teach people about the rich history of the LLO. The university will offer courses relating to some of the advancements made by the LLO. Courses such as an outpost management course and an outpost transport course, which would show off the LLO's amazing rail network, which in my opinion is the best ever created in game, and IRL, second only to the London underground.

We have also considered using the former Gangnam district for a large LLO park, or botanic gardens, and I will be talking to L0tad about that.

These are just some ideas for now, but we hope to work on them, to help bring the LLO back to it's former glory.
  4. We also have some other ideas of having new LLO "colonies". Nether portals from the main LLO to 1.7 terrain, so people can get a "fresh outpost" feel but still join the LLO. This idea might be a bit iffy due to the fact that the members aren't near the main area of LLO.

Mba also came up with the idea to modify rail stations and standardize them so arguments about signs being changed won't come up. He can elaborate more on that.

And of course, Food Boxes continue to spread across LLO slowly, so that we will be able to supply the new members with food.

So yeah. Yet another plan to build up more speed for the LLO.
  5. Yeah, my idea is to standardise the way rail stations and lines are built, sign posted and maintained.

My current ideas are to have every station use the place your minecart, get in and go forward option. Except for the end of the line, which will still use the button system. Most of the network is built like this, but there are a number of stations that still use a hill and button system. Signage in stations can also be confusing, one station in the jungle lists stations that are on the Northern Edge lines, as an upcoming station, and this could be very confusing to a new user of the system.

We should also make a standard for interchanges, such as the sandstone line and red line interchange. A standard for line interchanges in the station(such as the Wintermoon express and white line loop interchange) should also be developed. A standard for linking one line to the end of another

Standards for link lines would improve the quality of the system. These lines are lines that link two major lines, for example the line that links the red and Obsidian lines. There should also be a policy for smaller lines as well as private lines.

A standard policy for submitting ideas for new stations and lines would be useful, and would prevent confusion over routes and who will build it etc.

If people want to input on this rail system standardisation, that would be very helpful.

  6. I like the ideas but have some questions how this economy will work.
EMC is of course rupee based and I can not really see LLO getting more attractive by offering university courses for rupees for example. We tried tourism and it works as a "want a free tour of an awesome place?" but not really as a business.
Malls of course could work esp if they sell stuff new people need in the wild at valuable prices. Then again LLO has a history of being generous to newcomers and we should not change that.
Maybe instead of going for big consumer malls we should go for more ingroup trading. I always liked to build stuff with material bought or given from players instead of buying them at a mega-mall.
So instead of putting malls which can be found in towns a lot we can go for something more country.
Like complete villages with farms etc, a horse path or rail to get them to a hub.
I have been playing some transport tycoon lately so maybe I am just dreaming here ,)

    That sounds just awesome.
Maybe some sort of basic design guidelines for the nether routes / markers for portals etc could be established.
Also the more foodstations the better.

This will be a big task and I think we will never be able to get every station to follow some standard.
But we can try to do it at least for the bigger hub ones so people will not get lost that much.
  7. Well, luxury resorts could bring in some rupees, with players being charged per night or week. But it will be hard to implement the town elements into the LLO. But if we create our own sort of economic system, then that's another innovative thing from the LLO :D

Dude, Just, that is just.... I don't know. Just... Hilarious. And the best part, some of the people that were originally fighting the idea, are liking the post, my God, that is just... Rich, just rich.

No, but all joking aside (what did the composer say when he forgot his sheet music, ill be...Bock) The LLO needs something. I must warn you guys tough, the NR, and WIP NAU "economics" and "governments" were quite rocky, and NR ripped itself apart. It is staring to make more sense tough, I think we were ment to look at that and learn form it.

If you guys DO want to start a "goverment" of some sort (you cant have an economy without a "government" ) It would have to be INCREDIBLY simple. The NR proved that complex = too much that can go wrong.

But anyways, about the idea of the university. I was thinking about that last night 0.o I was thinking on the old gangnam 2.0, and also, I was thinking we can make the university a garden in itself, flowers everywhere, rooftop gardens, possibly sideways gardens, that will be a big attraction to the LLO. If you need help let me know.

I also think a simple economy would be the best as well. Primary driven by a weekly meeting in a market place type thing. People can set up small "shop" stalls, and people looking to buy would go around to all the shops. If the place where mba wanted to build that skyscraper sill being used?

Also throwing it out their, just getting opinions, would anyone be interested in starting a colony around the smp9 NR area, not right on it, as the region will undergo major changes, but something in the future?

NRN will also be of service is we can help, getting the message out thare :)

EDIT: Also, that library, we got to get that thing fixed.

  9. So I was telling mba and pen that we should name the two seas inside the LLO walls. Pen said one could be named "Radiance Sea", which is a pretty good name :) Any suggestions?
Jakres, Sunny_Chicken, zulu9 and 3 others like this.
  10. Maybe Radiance Sea for the red one, the blue one I'm not sure, and we can name the area they join, the Radiance Channel?
  11. Neve Ocean for the blue one I think
Jakres, Sunny_Chicken and zulu9 like this.
  12. Radiance-(other name) Channel sounds better
  13. I don't think you're quite getting what I mean.

When I refer to bring economy into the LLO, I mean just creating a small commercial scene to attract more people in. It would never be anything similar to the NR. Just maybe a few stores where people could earn or spend money if they feel like it.

I did suggest to pen the possibility of a government, but that was to handle decision making, because if we got lots of members, discussion would become harder. But the LLO isn't the place for a government.

And about the Gangnam site, pen and I were thinking that it would be the perfect spot for a massive public green space, a botanical gardens really. What would your thoughts on that be?
  14. Maybe we can name the blue one the Pandasea.
I went through the thread (again) and I think pandaseatramen deserves some credit. She is one of the very early LLO members (now retired from LLO I think) and I think her work is underrated.
  15. well i've heard of this before and now that I see what it is I would like to join in the last light out post area i will donate any thing you might need.
  16. Ooh, I like the sound of that. That's got my vote :D

Food Boxes #2 and #3 are complete. Vending machines might come up sometime too…
And while on the discussion of food boxes…Philo, do I have permission to modify your mooshroom station near the tower to a food box?
  17. The Radiance Sea, The Pandasea, and the Radiance - Pandasea Channel all sound great! :D
  18. Maybe the canal can be the
    Pan-Radiance-Canal
    :D
  19. Welcome to the LLO! I'll send you a PM on how to get there quickly.

  20. What are the benefits of joining LLO, i.e farms, grinders, community, etc?
