  1. Ya know I hate to be picky, but I don't see my name anywhere on here, and I've been here for a long, long time, the same time the militia joined actually

  2. Announcement!

I have compiled a Dispute Resolution Guide! Please refer to this when you are in an NR-related dispute with another player. :)

Dispute Resolution in the New Republic: A Guide
The following guide describes the course of action to be taken in the scenario you have found yourself in a dispute with another citizen in the New Republic.

Firstly, should you have a problem with another player's actions in the New Republic, stay calm, and pull them into a conversation, either through a forum convo or by pulling them aside in-game. Stay in the top 3 sections of this pyramid when explaining your point, and remember discussions are not about winning or shouting down/harassing your opponent.

Discussion is essential to the running of any community, and poorly or not discussing with other parties in a dispute will make people less sympathetic to your position and create friction in the process; the friction could create sparks and ignite a flame war.

Even if discussion is not immediately successful, it can help tremendously, as it shows one is attempting to reach a consensus. If the views of the involved parties are partially or mutually exclusive (one party's goals can be achieved by distancing another party from their goals) consider a compromise.

Also, focus on the outcome of the topic of the dispute; how significant and contributive is it? Do not focus on the other party's conduct excessively, and do not bring it up unless it is obstructing discussion severely. Assume that actions done by another player are done in good faith, for the good of the New Republic. Minecraft multiplayer is all about collaboration. Do not allow emotion to dictate the procession of a dispute; if you cannot keep a cool head, take a step back from the NR for a while, do something else, surf the web, do the laundry, sleep on it, and when you're ready, come back.

If all the aforementioned steps have been taken and there is no agreement, post on the NR thread detailing your dispute and request a third opinion. More likely than not, people will be willing to help, review the dispute, and give a third opinion, to help resolve the dispute.

If there is still a failure to reach a consensual agreement, file a complaint with the Arbitration Committee; they will impose a binding ruling putting both parties into a fair compromise. This is only to be used as a last resort.

Based on Wikipedia dispute resolution policy.

  3. I recognise a white flag as a flag for peace, only militaristic opponents of pacifism believe it's a cowardly symbol of 'surrender'. I'm the reason there's a white flag on the Schengen Bridge, you know. :)

Oh, my apologies, I must have overlooked you, I'll add you in :)
  4. Stoneguard will be available for people of the NR as soon as ants gets done with the walkway to move into and claim houses, plots, businesses and even jobs!

NOTE: The walkway is temporary we will be adding in a rail, afterwards.

  5. My bad for the generalization. There are multiple meanings for white flags. The song in question, by Dido (if it is the right song), however, uses a white flag to mean surrender.
  6. As the temporary head of infrastructure, we are in the process of building a bridge/walkway/track for potatoVille and stone guard.
Also Nether Spector is to be my deputy infrastructure head.
  7. My questions might have gotten buried. Is there a reason why the elections are pushed out by 2 weeks? It seems an election is needed sooner.

And once elected, how long does an official hold office (ie. when are re-elections)?
  8. Elections are held at the end of every quarter. :)
  9. That answers both questions :) Any news regarding the status of a new NR website? ETA?

  10. I'm sorry, what are quarters? I might have overlooked something and I do not know what they are. :)
  11. Every 3 months since there are 12 months in a year 12 divided by 4 = 3 therefore every 3 months is a quarter :)
