1.21.1 Update (1.20.5 & 1.21) 12/14/2024

  1. Today we are releasing a major update. Going from MC version 1.20.4 to 1.21.1. We will be working on the 1.21.4 update soon. No time estimates are available at this point. Definitely will be minimally 2025.

    The wastelands are also being reset with this update.

    On the vanilla side: there are a couple of new updates to look out for.
    • 1.20.5, the Armored Paws update. Adding Armadillos, wolf armor, and new wolf variants.
    • 1.21, the Tricky Trials update: Adding many new blocks such as copper typed blocks, crafters, and the Trial Chambers. Adding new mobs such as the bogged and breeze.
    Crafters and Trial Chambers have received minimal testing. So after the update, we will respond to and resolve problems that might pop up. In general, I shoot for the vanilla experience as often as possible. I am just looking for stability. So any changes that would be implemented would be pointedly responding to a problem/issue.
    As I have hinted around. A significant under the hood of the server was updated for this update to release. A big one was changes to EmpireCraft. EmpireCraft is our server fork of Paper. I put in a significant amount of time to migrate a lot of our custom data to Paper's systems. Aikar had created systems for storing our custom data 10+ years ago when no other option for metadata storage was available. With this migration, it eliminated a couple of our largest server patches. In theory this could speed up future updates.
    Going into all of the systems that were refactored would take a considerable amount of time for no real benefit. Everything from Custom Items, metadata for items, metadata for entities, and more. So you'll just have to take my word that... it took a lot a lot of time, and has created a sense of nervousness on the potential for bugs (Remember to report issues).
    As for EMC specific changes.

    • Armadillos and new wolf types are new eggifiable entities.
    • Added Mob heads for Armadillos, Bogged, and Breeze. (new wolves do not have heads YET). Shoutout to MoreMoople for being our Mob Head artist :)
    • Crafters should have res flag permissions aligning with containers.
    • The Pending Treasure maps are non-functional for various reasons. They may or may not be re-added. (technical issues caused problems... and time).
    • Weighted arrows (I think these might be unreleased) are not completely functional due to Mojang removing the option to hack in negative amplifiers for potion effects.
    • Eliminated our custom modifications of raids which was dependent on difficulty level.
    • Changed restrictions on copying Books. When the author of a book makes a copy, it creates a new Original (just as before). The change is that we are now allowing you to make copies of other players written books (which are marked as copies in the Lore) - aligning behavior more with Vanilla mechanics.
    There could be other changes that I have forgotten. If people bring my attention to a change. I will confirm it as a bug, or add to this list. Due to the complexity of internal changes, it is very possible that some shop signs may have to be recreated. We have not intentionally broke any though, so I hope they all 'just work'.
    I will admit. This list isn't... particularly thrilling. I do not think it is a reflection of the work that was required to get to this update. I genuinely think the technical issues in this update approach the complexity of the 1.12 to 1.15 update from years ago. I thank you all for your patience. And as previously mentioned, I genuinely believe that the work I have put in will assist in future updates.
    I also have some other projects in the work. As I approach my holiday break. I hope that some of these things can be announced and share a better picture of EMC's future going into 2025. I will keep you all posted.

    I try not to learn about updates until they're released on EMC or super close to being released on EMC!

  10. There have been quite a few issues with the update. I'll be making a separate thread on those after bit. I think I got things stable "enough" to stretch my legs for a bit.

  11. Hey all. There have been some hitches to the update. I think things are 'more' stable. Let me give some updates.
    • Crafters still have an issue with their disabled slots interface. The disabled slots DO save, but if you reopen the crafter, the disabled slots are reset.
      I have confirmed this issue is caused by us. I do not know why yet though.
      Update: I have a fix pending to go with the next reboot.
    • Had some issues with horses and shulker boxes in vaults. See the thread linked below. These issues should be fixed going forward for data that was not loaded yet.
    • Many holograms had some issues. lol. We will go through and repair them when we have time the next couple weeks.
    • There has been a report about some funky Ominous Bottles. I am stuck on this one a bit, but hope I can figure it out.
    • There have been some TPS issues. I fixed one of the major causes this morning. Alert me if there is extreme lag that needs investigated.

  12. Not sure if already mentioned or fixed but stepping into a trial chamber causes some extreme lag
  13. I don't think it has been mentioned. But I would be seeking this type of feedback. ONLY if it is experienced after the update I pushed this morning.

    If I am around, obviously I can just go look at it. Otherwise, I just need enough information to recreate the issue and experience it for myself - to look at stuff behind the scenes.

  14. If it helps, the lag seemed to be highest when the mobs we're spawning. More so with breeze but this could just be a coincidence. Once deactivated after killing everything and blocking off the spawners, things significantly improved. I do have mods running as well but in SP there was no issue so I could try without mods just for fun. I haven't tried this morning after the update you mentioned so I could try when I get home and report back.

    Only other things I have tried were egging armadillos and wolves and no issues there.

  17. There has been another report of issues with vault items. I would encourage you to avoid going through all of your vaults till I reply back.

    After which, you can message me if your items are broken
  18. I borrowed a computer and logged in just to clean up some placed shulkers and vault them last night.... I will try to remember to check on my vault pages (14 & 15) in a few days, if I'm able to log in again. I only mention where in case you need a guinea pig to check on, not sure if I was on at the right time or not.

  19. I pushed out an update that fixed the crafter "disabled slots".

    There has also been a lot of issues reported regarding shulker boxes... I am squashing those bugs as I find them. But it is... a complete disaster, lol. Shoot me a message if your stuff needs attention.

    Also, there are reports about certain enchanting repairs not working properly. I am looking into it...

  20. I can easily imagine that this update cost more effort than I can imagine. :cool: Thanks for the time put in, and good luck finding and fixing the bugs that are popping up now!
