[Suggestion] Enforce (Playername) after nickname on Discord

Discussion in 'Suggestion Box Archives' started by CaptainFoxy_, Aug 20, 2020.

  1. We have lots of fun on discord, it would be better if we knew who we are talking to. There is already a blip on the discord wiki about having your username set. Currently, there are players and staff members who are either setting their name to bots as a joke and having the clarification of their username would be best for a new player joining.

    Thanks

Most people have their discord name (not nickname) set to their player name. E.g.:
  3. "Most"

Also you needed to click on a player to find that info like you did for chin. That's not found casually scrolling the player list.

Having a set and stone rule to make sure your nickname has indication of your ign is better for all

I do not see why people should be forced to have their player name on Discord. Why not just ask them what their in-game player name is instead? :)

  5. -1 Until mod business and other staff related communications can be conducted on discord i see no need to enforce a nametag.

  6. What would your suggestion for method of enforcement be? just curious :)

  7. I don't really care about the official EMC Discord server, but let me think. I think it should be enough if either the Discord handle or the nick has the player's current username. After all, in-game you'll also need /p if someone changed their name, and you can't see who they are just by scrolling past.
  8. Okay - discord servers have nickname capabilities. Why not just enforce that you nickname yourself your player name in that discord server? No need to require that your actual username/tag be your minecraft name.

Edit: That appears to already be a thing. "Please make your Discord username the same as the one that you use elsewhere on EMC." https://empireminecraft.com/wiki/discord/

  9. Good catch. I wonder if this thread's purpose is now null, and should be locked? Doesn't seem like there's anything of value to discuss here since the answer has been found? 🤔
  10. Except it apparently isn't enforced.
    Here's a new screenshot:

  11. I'd definitely agree that asking staff to enforce it is still relevant, since the rule already exists :)

  12. Nor is a lot of stuff, moderation on the EMC Discord is quite lax nowadays. It's almost as a "free for all".
  13. Then it should be detached from EMC. I still don't get why it was made official in the first place. :p I thought it was so the rules could be enforced, but now I hear that apparently they aren't very strictly?...

  14. That's not true. Not once have I seen someone swear or use inappropriate language, for example. Though that's a discussion for another time. :p

  15. There is a balance maintained between fun and strictness on the discord server. Changing your name, while confusing, as long as it is not done to cause harm/impersonation is just players having fun. Staff sometimes join in too. We prefer you keep things simple, but it's not a crime to have some fun.

The normal rules do apply though and players are still expected to act in a way befitting of an EMC community member. We also use it during events, like today's death event scheduled will likely do so as well. This is why it is not detached from the server.
