  1. Looks like the mountain update would add mountain goats, better terrain generation for mountains, and snow that you can fall into

  2. Still waiting for "The Cave Update", but I'm willing to settle for less. ;)

  3. I haven't watched the option overview videos yet, as I find the style of the minifigures and cheesy dialogue annoying. :p

  5. SO this week I finally remembered that I had Minecraft installed on my laptop so... I fired up 1.14 (+optifine) and started a new world and well.. I dunno if this is me or.. but for some reason I always end up beginning in really appealing environments....

    Know what?

There's a savanna here, a mountain with a nice cave system, 'behind' me (across the desert) there was a village but it got raided and the attackers won (IMO raids in 1.14 are not worth the effort at all) I spotted a llama somewhere and I also have cows, chickens and pigs in the area. Oh, and fish ;)

My point though... I don't think caves need an upgrade. I mean.. extra hostile monsters? Why? You normally light up caves anyway and one extra monster won't make much of a difference. In fact... I think the caves as they are now are pretty awesome because of their empty nature they also have a spooky atmosphere about them. You never know what to expect (unless the mod makes a noise).

    Sometimes less = more.

And lets not forget that you normally go through these caves to mine...

btw.. even though 1.14 left me indifferent I have to say that stuff like the campfire is really useful. See pic above.. It plain out help you to find your own base again which rocks. And pillager patrols can also add a nice threat into the mix ;)

  6. Meanwhile I made my first 1.14 world and spawned on two small islands in the middle of a deep ocean :p
I do agree about campfires though. They are an awesome addition!

  7. Well, it seems that all the biomes we can vote for have now been introduced:

To be honest I doubt I'll be voting at all because I can't really make up my mind, all of them seem a bit lackluster to me. A boat with a chest is useful but it's use is likely limited. I doubt the stuff you put in will retain if you destroy the boat. And since not every area has water... A frog and the new tree and woodtype are nice but in the end it's not that much new....

Mountain update introduces a goat, which could be fun, but I don't even remember the last time I went to climb a mountain. I usually dig down ;)

Badlands could be fun but I'm not too sure about a mob that will actually steal your stuff.

It's a shame that they don't give us any more details. A goat could be cool, but it depends on what it will do. Maybe eat your trash? Or create a new milk & maybe cheese? But then again, we already have dozens of food items already. Can you tame a vulture? Stuff like that.

I can't help wonder about all the downsides... For example, foxes are a fun mob, but since they always run away from you you can hardly catch 'm or have much fun with them. Same applies to rabbits. They're fun but hardly make it worth your while to actively hunt, capture or breed them.

So yah, I won't be voting. Still curious to see which biome is going to win though ;) And I'm really looking forward to them fixing the fletchers & smithing table :)

    PS: crossbows are pretty cool.

  8. Team Swamp right here, I look forward to see them add something else that makes them unique, other than slimes. :)

I'm anticipating Shrek DLC for the Swamp biome, haha~~

  9. Besides witches, blue orchids, a unique water color, and lily pads? :p
Jokes aside, it will probably be very close between mountains and swamps.
  10. So it looks like we are getting a nether update and mountain update!!!!!

One question I have is pigmen getting replaced???
  11. Nope as in the mojang websight they are just getting a rename not replaced so gold farms are safe ish hopefully just a rename is all they get!

  13. Looks like it. They will be called Zombie Piglins (taking the gender out of it) and there will be a "human" version of the piglin that gather gold on their own and will attack you unless you are wearing gold armor. Plus you will be able to trade with them, except they might throw your stuff far on the ground because they are not nice like villagers.

Will this break our gold farms?
  14. Certainly looks like an exciting couple of updates! Looks like the nether update will be 1.16 with the mountain update being 1.17 or later.
  15. I'm not too sure about all this... What's wrong with zombie pigmen anyway? Minecraft suddenly feels the need to get politically correct or something (just a statement, I'm not going to discuss my opinion over this).

As to the piglins themselves.. I can't help but notice similarities with the pillagers which includes the piglin beast that looks a lot like a reskinned ravager to me. Sure, it has different movements and another attack style, definitely, but still... in the end it's roughly the same thing. Not something I'm getting excited over right away.

Of course I do hope there's more coming. And on a positive side this finally gives a good use for gold armor, that's definitely a pro.

I'm just hoping that they're also going to finally finish 1.14 this time. Referring to the fletcher & smithing table which you can easily craft (you can also get a crafting recipe) but once you do so you end up with a block that does nothing useful for you. I still think that was a major oversight with 1.14. At least try to finish the new release so that everything actually 'does' something useful (I am aware of the possibility to get a villager to switch trades, but even then....).

Oh well... been using crossbows for a while but ended up liking regular bows a lot better. Campfire (especially with a wheat block underneath) is really useful though and I plain out love scaffolding. At first I thought it was only useful for building stuff but no... due to the way you can build up a structure it's also extremely useful when mining. If you want to get some ore from the ceiling of a cave that's no longer a problem anymore. That's plain out awesome.

Well... hopefully we'll get an interesting snapshot next week. So far the bees are still trying to swim on my world :)
  16. Oh, Minecon Live already happened? I didn't realise. :p
I like the idea of more Nether biomes, for sure!
The Piglins also sound interesting (although the picture doesn't look good to me), but I wouldn't want zombie pigmen to go...
  17. I'm going to reserve any specific judgement on 1.15, rather I'll say this:

I hope it will be a quality update, rather than one that is just "filler". (Flashbacks to the "pre-1.13" updates...)

  18. I couldn't agree more! Well, despite my scepticism it's only fair to say that they are on the right path I think. For example the ability to store (and retrieve) values is a rather unique feature which has some huge potential (specifically for making command block games in Minecraft). Especially because it can be used across sessions (store value, leave game, load world again and the values retained). And bees can be very useful to keep around, especially if you're into farming to get you more food.

And I'm stil keeping my hopes up for a pair of binoculars ever since they took away the zoom option :)

So there's definitely something to get excited for I think :)

  19. Sorry for a double post but I found something which I think you guys may find interesting as well:

(my) Points of interest: 0:12; scripting. That looks very interesting to me, I hope that we'll finally get better access to jigsaw blocks. Of course things could be different: exploding the TNT simply triggered an event which then triggered the loading of the structure using a structure block... who knows :) 0:20; target block. It could be fun... I know plenty of players have tried to make a good working shooting game and now we can.

I couldn't care less about Minecraft GO Earth but Dungeons looks decently interesting. I hope they might be able to tie it into Minecraft so that you can also easily build your own levels, that would be sweet.

And of course the Nether update. I can't help wonder if the whole update won't be focusing on the Nether. And IMO rightfully so, the End already had a very good makeover, so why not something more for the Nether? It's kind of empty down there.

So far I think that we could be looking at something quite interesting... reading about scripting brings me back to the 1.13 days (= the introduction of datapacks), we loved playing around with those snapshots!
  20. I believe 1.16 is officially the nether update, which should mean a significant portion is dedicated to it!
