[Idea] locked chests and buildmode blocks derelict timer

  1. There are ways to find out the owners of structures. You can look for locked chests any make note of the names.

There is a newer method as well. However, let me be very clear, I am NOT advocating griefing. Find a protected type of block and try to break it. It should give you a prompt that says you can't because <player> owns it. Then you have their name. If you are successful at breaking the block, it was placed before block protection. TURN OFF BUILD MODE (/buildmode to toggle) then carefully put it back exactly as it was and move on.

With their name you can do /p <name> to see derelict status and when they were last on. You can pm them, try to add as a friend, or pm them on forum to discuss a possible solution.

Awhile back I built a big mob farm over an ocean. Entcounts showed tons of animals (way more than the squid). After some exploritory digging I found a huge sheep pen directly below my spawner. As the sheep would be far easier to move than my mob farm I found a locked chest, contacted the player and was able to peacefully resolve the issue to both our satisfaction.

  2. I thought the same thing, but he uses derelict/disappear in the OP, So am I misunderstanding something somehow? xD

  3. You're right, the disappearing might refer to the signs on the locked chests. It doesn't make sense to me that blocks would just vanish whereas they wouldn't had they not been 'protected'.

  4. If he votes weekly, he is not derelict, which this suggestion won't help you either =/. GL with your project thou

  5. I feel there could be some mass trolling with build mode Thinks of ideas around the frontier...

  6. The system has been for 6 months and there hasnt be any problems...

  7. There have been, actually, or at least I've heard of some. The iron fences around the ender crystals not being breakable, for example.

  8. Going to ignore the other post and start from the beginning. I think if there is going to be a derelict thing. It should be atleast 150 days (5 months). The "I couldn't get on" excuse for '5 months' would be a little ridiculous. Its not incredibly hard to access the internet and get on the forums if you have a computer malfunction within 5 months. There is many ways + mobile devices to get on and vote or notify a official that you are experiencing problems and it could take a few months. Then the appropriate protections may take place.
  9. Staff told me it was derelict

  10. In my opinion, the world is limited and people don't want to travel thousands of blocks from a Frontier Outpost to establish their own place. Therefore, I think that there should be a timer. Another solution is more outposts which apparently will happen someday. Otherwise Staff should allow block breaking or claiming near derelict builds.

  11. There will be outposts that will go further to make it so you dont have to travel. And then with the upcoming update you will be able to TP to your base, and not have to travel a ton to get there...

For all those that think this is a good idea..., Imagine this....

You played and built a ton a your Base. But one day you got busy from work, or you lost internet, or had family issues. By the time you got back on emc all your stuff in town and out in the wild was lost. All the stuff you worked very hard for to build, and spent all that time building....

Sorry but I can not see this happening as, if it did, it would be the same as having them Wipe the Frontier. There is no difference.

Then comes the fact of the griefing. If you lost your stuff, it would be griefing and that is not allowed on EMC.

Just think about what I said,

  12. Yes, I contacted the old owner and he gave it to me. Showed that to staff and done.

I'm not saying it's ok to grief, I'm saying its annoying when you're building something or fixing something and 2 random blocks are under build protection, you can't take m down

  13. Precisely. It should be a high amount of days, maybe 100 or something and afterwards go derelict.

Maybe even implement like a rupee price of 2k to break buildmode blocks in a certain area? to create an extra barrier.

  15. If I couldn't find 1 day to get internet access in 5 months to save my stuff. I shouldn't have even been on the internet before that. It would be my own fault and not 'work'.
  16. Union. Definitely union.

  17. Should be noted (I haven't read all of the specific posts in this thread yet), but locked chests are one thing that can be requested to be removed in the frontier by an owner. Our policy is that they need a reason for it to be removed, but also all players on the lock sign must not have logged in for 6 months. Different numbers apply to banned players. The person requesting the removal is not allowed access to the contents. (For the same reason we don't allow ownership change of forceclaims).
This is done completely manually on a case by case basis. We have no plans to automate that process. There may be other variables involved that a staff member must lookup.

I am not sure if we have handled any derelict buildmode stuff. But I would presume we would implement a similar policy at such time.

Edit: 6 months is an intentionally long time. The frontier is much larger than town, so we want to give a better sense of its permanent nature (unlike town's derelict policy).

  18. What about those who get busy from say School? or from a Job?

I know players who live in the wild for the fact that they are only able to get on for a week or 2 in a whole year due to them being away from home for several months at a time...

Its not their fault... Its what they have to do...

  19. You're telling me they only have 14 days off in the entire year? Sounds like slave labor.
  20. ive ran into a different problem, it involved someone "locking a chest" by building it in build mode and then placing blocks on top of the chest so noone can access it. its an exploit of the locking system
