Pokemon Sun/Moon Talk

  1. Figured I'd make a separate thread for this.

How is everyone doing in the game?

This is my first regular Pokemon game to play, only played PokemonGo before, so I'm learning how to actually play it. So far my big accomplishments are having a Snorlax (evolved from the Munchlax) and a Incineroar (evolved from my start Torrecat). I've also gone through three of the trials so far (or maybe more, I forget).

My next thing I'm trying to do is evolve my Magnemite and two of the grass-types I got whose names I don't recall. I also need to go back to that water area and catch more water-types because all I have there is the Wishiwashi which doesn't evolve at all.
  2. Sounds cool! :)

  3. seems either no one on here is playing the games or no one wants to talk about but last night I beat the main storyline of Pokemon Moon and saw the credits and all that. i'd talk about it more but i don't want to put spoilers for those who haven't played through it yet.

so now i just need to fill out the Pokedex which seems like it's going to take a long time to do.

for those with Pokemon game experience, do you think Pokemon Sun is the exact same game but just with different exclusive Pokemon and the different evolve strategies for some of them?

  4. Today I picked up Milotic and Politoed... both pretty rare in the game. :D

  5. Glad to see you are enjoying it! If you want help completing your pokedex I can trade you some sun exclusives for your moon exclusives or just random Pokemon I don't have.

  6. I played Sun in the car to and from the grandparents' houses for Thanksgiving. Beat the main storyline pretty easily and am starting my pokedex completion when I get the chance to play. RIP my possibility for a Shiny Pelipper that I ran into by complete chance in the main quest though. It roosted and had already knocked out a lot of my Pokemon. I went to hit it with an attack and it was a critical hit, thus ending it. This was before I put false swipe on a Pokemon in my party. Last night I attempted to get a Shiny Slowpoke using the new game mechanics, but gave up after 50+ chain. I have no idea how people can sit and go for 100+. I think I'm better off just trying to complete the pokedex instead.

I've played nearly one part of every verison release since original yellow, so I have a history with the Pokemon games. Personally I believe that the 'call for help' feature is one of the most interesting and definitely changes the game aspect, compared to the others. In addition, the graphics are a lot different. I enjoyed that in Alpha Sapphire they stuck to the original design of game mechanics (with exception to the Pokefinder), but am also enjoying the movement in Sun. I think I'll always prefer the original, due to its nostalgia though.

  7. I am getting Pokemon Moon soon. Hopefully I will get it for Christmas, if not I will use my amazon gift cards xD

  8. Ah I didn't know that was a new thing but yeah that's a key thing involved in the game to find the rarer Pokemon.

Personally I have no idea how hard or long it would take someone to find ALL the Pokemon without looking up methods online but it'd be quite a challenge.

One thing you definitely need in this game is a trusted friend to trade with because it's hard to get some of the Pokemon trading with strangers. Soon I'm going to need someone I trust to trade the legendaries with so I can fill up my Pokedex but still get them back. I'd say more but I don't want to spoil things.

  9. So this is weird and wondering what the deal is... I'm catching Pokemon that aren't in the Pokedex. Like Spheal is one of them but I have a few that don't register.

  10. This isn't the first time to happen.

In ORAS, Ruby/Sapphire remakes, after battling Groundon or Kyogre, non-native Pokemon start appearing in Hoenn. When I first heard Alomomola from Unova, I was crying. It wasn't right to introduce these other Pokemon before battling the Elite Four. I've been used to only Pokemon in the regional Pokedex until the post-game. Now I see that it gives players more options to face the Elite Four and Champion. You could use Garchomp instead of Salamence or Flygon (BTW: Flygon can now learn Dragon Dance in Sun and Moon).

  11. Would you want to use Dragonite competitively or optimized for the off-line battle facilities (Battle Royal and Battle Tree)?
Dragonite is very well-known in the metagame for its Hidden Ability Multiscale (Marvel Scale as Dratini and Dragonair), which halves attack damage taken when at full HP. This allows D-nite to endure one of most non-STAB-boosted Ice-type moves and STAB-boosted Fairy, Dragon, and Rock attacks.

  12. Yeah I'll definitely continue to level up this Dragonite and getting it's move set the way I want it. I'm also leveling up another Dragonair currently so I have a second Dragonite should I need it.

  13. I already beat the game a few days ago.

Like every other Competitive Trainer, I chose Rowlet.

    3 days later

Game complete, with my team being

    Decidueye
    Mimikyu
    Crabominable
    Salazzle
    Palossand
    Alolan Muk

    am proud

  14. Why is Decidueye the best for competition?

When I beat the game my team included Crabominable and Muk, they did a great job too. I'm trying to fill my Pokedex now though so I've put team-building on hold.

  15. Question for those familiar with the game... don't look if you don't want spoilers...

after you beat the game and you go into that shop that allows you to learn the "battle-specific moves" for your Starters, what's the strategy with the moves? It says something about boosting it if it's paired with another type. I don't have the game in front of me to see the exact text but I'm curious why these specific moves are better for battles?

  16. Its stats are good all around and can create many roles for it in your team. Meanwhile, Incineroar only has good Physical Attack and is slow, and Primarina is more of a special attacker, and is also slow.

btw you should get omega ruby or alpha sapphire after. the graphics are a little downgraded, but it's really good

  17. The Base Speeds of the starter's final evolutions are of 10 point differences.

    70
    60
    60

Including alternate forms, about 60% of all Pokemon are faster than Base 60 and about 40% above Base 70. There are 153 with 100 Base Speed or more, and 83 at 110 Base or more. Only 15 entries are above 130 Base Speed.

It's up to you what Pokemon are important to out-speed or out-slow.
  18. I don't play game boy games or psp, or any other sort of hand held game that can't be on a phone.

I like playing Pokemon Go but not other pokemon games.
  19. Oh. Interesting that you're posting here, then. :p
