  5. I don't really understand what happened, but I'm pretty sure Myeno was involved somehow. ^.^
  6. I may or may not have been one of the players that got a message  I am wondering, would it just be the forum login password that may have been compromised or do I need to change my minecraft login password? For the forums my password is different, but like the unfortunate staff my minecraft login may be pretty similar to like every other password I have. Ya'll can yell at me all you want, it's not gonna make me bother to make 20 completely unique passwords for games and forums, sorry. :p

OH! and... it keeps getting referred to like this is the first time this has happened. *reflects on about 6 months ago where nearly the same thing happened*

Edit: apparently both of these things were addressed on page 4... the only page I didn't read... well until after I posted this.

Recap- staff wasn't staff last time this happened and no passwords were compromised... so basically this is largely a security issue for staff to work out and they were kind enough to let us know that somebody was snooping. oh man, let the conspiracy theories whirl... just kidding, I brought my tin foil hat and apathy inducing boob tube :D

  14. Good news. I found a XenForo addon that adds 2 factor authentication, and with a little finesse I have it working on my dev copy of the website. Installing it will make the forums break for a moment, so ill do it after midnight soon, but not tonight because I'm way too tired incase something goes wrong....

Everyone will be able to add a Google Authenticator to their account if they wish (and we will require all staff to have it unless there is very strong reason they cant, and then we will ensure they have a super secure password)
  15. No fair... I wasn't special enough for a false ban...

I don't have a computer and won't for quite a while still. I have a strong itch to play Minecraft again, especially on EMC. I miss you all.

I'm sorry this happened to all of you. :(

Hopefully from now forward everyone will take some effort to improve their security practice in cyberspace.

    Now for an opinion piece:
EMC was attacked because of some jerk seeking revenge and looking to disrupt the lives of others.
Hacking a large community like this is thrilling in a way to black hat ideologists. When this happens, the intent may have been as simple as stirring up trouble or trying to access vital information to leak sensitive data. This could include secret projects that can be leaked to a competitor or personal information used to harass or harm individuals.

As has been shown here, the only successful act has been abusing staff commands (fortunately only Moderator level), harvesting contact information of staff and using that info to harass them, collection of IP addresses that can only be manipulated to a certain degree, depending on other data available online anywhere else.

In the end, I hope all those involved in committing these criminal acts are punished to the full extent of applicable law.
To those victimized, I hope your recovery from this B.S. is quick and easy.

I am going back to hiding out in the void. See you all again sometime. :)
  16. Thanks a ton. I'm glad you're the guy at the top.
