Hello EMC J I need some help. I’m a teacher who teachers K-5 resource room. I wanted to create a listening center in my classroom this year where students could listen to a book while reading it. However, these book and CD sets are around $25 each. So, on mumble one day, I thought that maybe some of my fellow gamers would like to read a book.I’m looking for volunteers to do just that from the list below. Most of the books are seasonal in some way and some are classics. You can rent them from the library or may be able to find some full texts online. The following are some guidelines that would need to be followed: 1.The reader must be 18 years of age or older to read a story. Sorry, but my state laws would require me to obtain parental permission for those under 18 and I don’t want to have to deal with that. A few people have asked about having a family member or friend read for them. That is fine as long as your entree follows these guidelines. 2.The recording would need to be crisp and clear. Due to the range of disabilities, background noise can be distracting for my students and it may make it difficult to concentrate on reading a story if they hear dogs or other people talking. 3.I will listen to every single recording in length before burning it onto a CD for my kids. So please, stick to the story. 4. You may read up to 5 books. The process is easy. ·Choose a book and reply so I can cross it off the list. ·Obtain the book and read it through a few times to familiarize yourself with the text. Do some practice runs. ·Begin by recording yourself reading the title and introducing the author and illustrator. Following this, you will need to read a short line about hearing a sound to turn the page. I will add in the sound myself to make them transparent across all books. Example: “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. This book is written by Jon Scieszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. When you hear this sound *pause* please turn the page.” ·As you record yourself reading, please pause whenever you turn the page to ensure students have enough time to turn pages. ·End with “The End.” ·Send the file(s) to me in a private message. If you had to stop the recording and begin a new one, that is fine, just send them all to me. If for some reason you are unable to send me the files, let me know and I can pm you an email address. I would like them before September 1st. I can't enter because I'm not eighteen, but I would like to say that the book "If you give a mouse a cookie" was a childhood (more or less, I'm only fifteen ) favorite!

wouldnt this hinder ur students? most ppl read at their own speed, but by having someone read it out loud they now either listen or read. dont think ppl would do both. if u want to encourage ppl to read then i wonder if this will do that.
Every child learns differently. Some learn best by having things read to them, some by reading themselves. This idea is a great one to A) save money for the classroom B) give students a new way to learn C) foster a love of literature. Some students that struggle with reading never pick up a book because they get so frustrated by not being able to read it. This is a great way to start to bring more kids over to the reading experience and start them on the right path to poof: I fit your parameters and as long as I can get a microphone to work with my MAC I will participate in this

I personally do not fit the age requirements for helping, wish i could though. This, like Damien said is a great idea for the reasons she said, but also because those audio books can have readers who have dull and monotone voices. By having different people read, you have a range of voices for the kids to listen to. I'm sure that if Bitemenow read a novel, i would listen to it just because he loves to get into character and have fun with the stuff he's doing. +1 to your idea and i wish the best of luck to you.

And now for the responses, loves! Unfortunately, Audible requires a subscription, which is expensive. I also have 2 computers to cover 46 students between my coteacher and I so anything that requires a computer is out. Thank you, thank you, thank you! That is so sweet of you! I have several students who's first language is spanish, probably a third of my caseload, so feel free to participate still I'd love for them to get used to listening to different voices. I wouldn't be asking for this if it hindered my students. I am very much so an advocate for them. Everyone reads differently and these students in particular have unique learning differences. These books-on-tape help their fluency, comprehension, and accuracy by reading along with someone who has mastered these skills. It also develops a love of literacy, especially for students who are not read to often at home. Thanks I was going to record them all myself with my co-teacher. However, my students hear me read aloud all the time for lessons. They probably hear me read more than anyone else in their life so I want to expose them to different voices and styles of reading. and you said that some kids speak spanish as their first language are any of the books going to be in spanish or not because i am pretty fluent for having it as my second language
