  1. But... as I recall - it also depends on the moderator, if they choose to temp or perm ban.
  2. The system you just described is completely incorrect and not how it works...our ban system works great. :)

  3. It's not the banning system that worries me... it's the 'unbanning' system.
  4. What have you seen, exactly, that has it worry you?
  5. Just that the phrase 'All or nothing' has been instilled into the second chance system ... And if someone who has a more minor offence gets unbanned, they receive same punishment as a more severe offender.

    Being- they are completely reset*
  6. But as Jack said "minor" offences do not get you a full tempban.
Major and repeated minor offences do though.
  7. Who is going to be the judge of how extreme the rule breaking is though? I don't want to create an intricate tier system that values certain rule breakings above others. Instead we hold people to zero tolerance for ALL the rules.

  8. I think you mean full permaban. :p

But, this is correct. We only hand out permabans for those who deserve permabans. In cases where it could be a mistake, there is the appeal process, and if the player feels they aren't being treated fairly within the rules, they can request the moderator to add an admin, which they all happily comply with doing. :)
  9. I think you misunderstood what he was saying. He was under the impression that someone who accidentally swears in chat one time is going to get the same fate as someone who is a griefer, which isn't how it is.
  10. oh lol. I was only referring to granting 2nd chances. If they received a perma-ban. chances are they did something to deserve it.

I see how what I said doesn't necessarily make sense.
  11. partially, yeh ...

I'm meaning if someone who has multiple chat offenses who gets perma banned is put at the same level of intensity as someone who one time griefed, or someone who used 'illegal' mods, or someone who tries hacking...

I don't want to try starting debates about the rules ... but we are practically a pg-13 community... you're either 13 or older... or you should have had parent consent; saying a curse word multiple times shouldn't be seen on the same intensity as someone who is non-jokingly rude to someone...

Also, maybe the person who griefed did it accidentally? but they were still screenshot and reported none-the-less...

Maybe the person who used illegal mods... uses it on their singleplayer or their own private server, but they forgot to disable it when a staff was investigating them for another report?

    hacking...no that should always get perm-ban :p

It's just been that all to soon ... i've seen hundreds of people leave emc ... because either their friend was purged from a (less-on-the-scale) perm ban ... or they just stopped caring and got banned on their own.

The way I see it... if you are 'allowed' a second chance... you shouldn't be reset (you're having to take up the same amount res space as before anyways) ... if your perm was so severe to the degree of not being allowed back on - then you just aren't given a second chance period ... (unless you are for instance a griefer who stole items... then they have to re-imburse the people they stole from, else they are fully reset)
  12. I would fully consider spamming dozens of times and griefing to be on the same level of severity, because they both earn you the same punishment, a permban.

As for "accidentally" griefing, it is done case by case and I trust the mods to investigate and make the right decision.

But, you seem to be forgetting that the purge is their punishment. There was once a time on EMC where a player could get permbanned, appeal, and then come back on like nothing happened without so much as a slap on the wrist. They got banned, so they have to punished for it.
  13. Exactly this.
  14. What would it accomplish to unban someone systematically if they don't know they are unbanned?

The current system works effeciently, if an old banned player wants to come back, they appeal. Usually when its been over a year like this is suggesting, we would give another shot unless it was a very serious issue.

Auto unbanning them won't accomplish anything really since they are very unlikely to join.

So essentially, this system is already in place.
  15. Thanks Aikar.
Um... Eklektoi, no offense, but you are kind of moving the topic of this thread to be the current unbanning system... Could you possibly create a new thread about this? Thanks ;3
  16. No need now really, I was just posting my opinion originally about the thread, just multiple replies to my post caused us to have say 'an entire page' :p
  17. You know? I am banned and I really do agree with this. I have learned my lesson and would like to come back again.
  18. You might have learned your lesson, but a ton of people probably haven't. Imagine the government/court of your choice all of a sudden deciding "okay guys, we're going to release everyone that's in jail every so and so years." There would be a few people that would make the most out of it, and stay out of trouble once they've learnt their lesson, but then most of the killers (PvPers), arsonists (griefers) and thieves would just decide to go straight back at it and get out next year.

Obviously it wouldn't quite be as extreme as the metaphor but the idea is the same. Everyone deserves a second chance, which is why the appeal and purge system is in place, to give people a second and sometimes even third chance when they deserve it. :)

If it were to be instated, there would have to be a list of specific people that can't be unbanned, and it'd have to be a year after the ban, not once a year for everyone because people would just break the rules a week before the reset.

Right now, the system works exceptionally well in filtering out the good, bad and people that deserve another chance. :)

  19. Yeah... those are the conns. But I really have learned my lesson from spam, in fact, I have been practicing on other servers! So I know I should be back on EMC.
  20. Stick around the community and show that you have matured if you want to get back on. Trying like this (the above quote of yours) won't help you, and it doesn't really reflect very well on you. Show that you are dedicated to this community, and that you have moved on from your old habits, and you will get back on eventually. Remember, patience is a virtue.
