So I don't know if anyone has pointed this out on the previous seven pages but there is a reason why our server is the one with the iron farm problem. It's because it is not entirely vanilla. The reason? Mob eggs. Making a huge iron golem farm normally is a huge pain because you have to transport the villagers from a village. But on EMC, it's pretty dang easy. If people couldn't use villager mob eggs, I bet iron farms would be much less of a problem. Although I am not entirely against them as I am quite the grinding fanatic (not with iron though).
Hush you Give it a month or so. Let the shops fill up and the price go down. People will get tired of it especially when there's little profit. Then the price will recover for those worried about it.
Hey now, people were blaming Mojang for this and I was just saying it's not entirely their fault. If it wasn't so popular and "mainstream" I would have one myself
Its vanilla, the blocks are legit, the spawning is legit, its vanilla. I sorry to say, but deal with it, if the economy is in any way going to be ruined, let it be iron. It will be much easier for us who don't *cough* own a giant mega mall if the prices go down.
As a moderator has said we are a suvival server so Economy comes 2nd. So what if the economy is ruined as I and others have said we are a SURVIVAL server. #rant over But in all seriosness everyone is blaming mojang for impmenting grinders into the game. As I see it we aren't a 'vanilla' server we are 'French vanilla' as we do have the survival aspect vanilla minecraft does not have a town world or infinite use on fireworks.
Hey, why don't we allow people to grief the iron farms? Then they will be more dificult to build and more exclusive
No, iron golems can't be reproduced in town. Though I have seen 2 res's with a single iron golem living in glass cages.
reading this thread made me think that I would build a 1 holding cell one. But why can't they be reproduced?
Iron golems are disabled in town (although some people still have one or two from before this was put into effect).
Anyways back to the topic on hand: it would be nice if iron farms were gone but then iron would be not as much so stocked as it is now and prices would rise dramatically. Now this is a terrific thing for shop owners but bad for the consumer. Personally I would prefer they be gone too so people can appreciate my iron lab a bit more rather than saying "oh you can just afk a iron farm for 5 hours and get that " I like to stay neutral to most topics/ideas but on this one I am picking Alex's side.
Then they should just make villager eggs unplaceable in the wild but that decision sounds unreasonable . Like Twitch1 said above me, this is actually the first post that defines the problem spot on.
I'm quite surprised this possibility hasn't been mentioned yet: Allow a limited amount of villages to be placed in an area when in the wild, similar to how the entcount works. It wouldn't destroy iron farms, but it would limit them a little bit more. I'm not for or against them being banned.
I have been reading a few pages of this thread - while AFKing at an iron farm in the background. Sure, maybe it brings down the price of iron, and sure, maybe villagers weren't supposed to be used this way. But you could do it in an unmodified online client. Think about it - automatic iron might seem like cheating, but there are many things on the Empire that you can't do in vanilla Minecraft. What about Eggifying? That's a creative-mode only perk. But we use it all the time, and nobody complains. Or how about Shop chests? Those aren't vanilla. And protection? And locked chests? There's countless other things that most of us use every time we play on the Empire. Iron farms might lower the price of iron, but they don't lower the value. It can still be used with the same things. Remember before you could trade with villagers? Chain mail armor used to be super expensive and only purchasable from the Empire Shop. Do you remember before the End? Ender Pearls used to cost around 25 Rupees each. Now, you'd be luck to sell a double chest full for 750 Rupees. EDIT: I really don't see any strong argument as to why they should be removed/banned. Only that they will 'ruin the iron economy' and they 'aren't supposed to exist'. How many people here have exploited one bug or another at some point in time? I would be willing to bet all of you. That dispenser trick that makes them fire really fast? It's a bug. Block Update Detectors (otherwise known as BUDs) are a bug. You can make good armor, weapons and tools. But you can't make great items, because it's only iron. At this point in time, there's no legitimate way to obtain infinite diamonds. What about people who want beacons? I purchased six Wither Skeleton skulls, and was broke. So now I have two beacons on the minimum amount of blocks, whereas I would like to have a giant pyramid of iron blocks to fill in underground, so I can have Speed II and Jump Boost II. But that goal is unreachable unless I save up for a whole long time to get all the iron required for two separate beacons at the maximum size. EDIT II: Look at it this way - the only reason there is so many iron farms, is because of one key factor. Eggs. That's not vanilla, is it? Nope, but I don't see anyone complaining. Without eggs, there would be barely any iron farms, as you would have to find a village and build a and around it. So if you want to get rid of iron farms - go complain to Mojang and the Empire staff about exploits and non-vanilla things. When they become things that aren't supposed to exist, and only do through hacks, then, and only then, will iron farms be banned. Meaning they won't be. Sorry for the biggest wall of text I've ever seen on the Empire, but I had to get my point across.
