I was playing on SMP6 for quite a while, but there were rarely many people around, and the ones that were didn't seem... nice. In fact, a guy came up to me in the wild while I was working on a large building and spleefed me to death (I didn't bother reporting it). I saw that there were usually a group of people on SMP7 in the same area, and that there were a lot of buildings there on the map. I jumped on to the server, trekked through the wild without dying (had to sleep in holes), and met Zulu when he was working on a meeting/party at the hall in the downtown. I still largely build on my own, but I enjoy the idea that there is a community I have an attachment to.
Amassing outpost, but i have bigger things to do than argue with some of you. You can have whatever you want in the old ganganam, Just keep the old Spleef Shop and the Gangnam Building or "Feel Good Inc." Well, be back one day

I also started out on smp3 and still have my res there (I guess). When smp7 launched I was beginning to get bored with my community farm so I headed out to have some fun in the wild. My initial goal was to find a jungle, grab some ocelot eggs and get rich. But the jungle I found was in such a nice area that the idea of a wild community came to mind. And the rest is already well documented LLO history

Lol, now for my story! (Is similar to yours ) In february, my friend told me about EMC. I thought it looked pretty cool so I signed on later that night after waiting for an open slot (this also took place on SMP3, when we had a great economy and many, many players). I completed the tutorial and I waited for him to get to town. He told me a few useful commands I couldn't remember from the guide, and I claimed a res 2 lots away from his. When I had virtually no rupees we set out to his wilderness base, got plenty of wood and cobble and coal, and headed back. Later that night, I ran out of the wood and I had to pay some rupees to him because I was about to go and make my own wild base, and he would spare a few but needed a donation on my part. I dug a trench, and we had to head back to spawn because we forgot the signs. We got them, and somebody followed us out to his base and griefed it beyond repair. The next day we both set out onto an island. We got griefed twice in one day, but made a pretty cool base above a cave with a ravine. And AlexHallon tagged along, which is how he became my first EMC friend. We were griefed repeatedly (this was before the /report command, btw). So me & my friend bought iron for the hide and free slot. My brother joined, blah blah blah. This didn't work, and then the wild reset came. My friend never tried to make a wild base again, and I retreated to life as a towny for awhile and made a pretty unsuccessful store. Then came TES, AlexHallon's group. There I met brennian and a few others, and we were griefed so often it closed after a few days. The good thing is JustinGuy visited us and we got a few pictures (I have shared mine on the site somewhere, but it was on my old computer that is now broken ) I tried my share at a wild clan, and it went pretty good until my internet went kaput and the group rarely talked, and it crumbled (which is how I met kells18 and TTH). I, once again, retreated to Towny life. After a few weeks of curiosity, I checked out the LLO thread (this is when I became MUCH more active than I was on the forums, and became a more mature and helpful member). When I learnt all of the things people were doing here, I was dying to join and signed up. I had many ideas, many of which I have not shared but am still wanting to do, and the truth is: The LLO is a really great place to be. I also believe the LLO is how I met Pandas, it was definitely the way I met MBA, and a few others. A few months on I became LLO site staff, and people have recently been asking what I think of their ideas and I replaced Pandas at the LLO opening ceremony, because she couldn't make it Should also say, that when my house was griefed (it's been griefed once or twice), I didn't have the materials, and people fixed it for me. Protection in groups...atleast that's what goes around my town when there's a man who exposes himself to children and tries to kidnap them goes around... (he does it every february. I think its the same guy. The first time he chased my friend and his mum had to pick me and my other friend up, because it occured right next to us - and we didn't know. We were also in a park...when we were all 11 years old... with some classmates)
