https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us...for-Windows-Multiple-Accounts-on-One-Computer I haven't seen this discussed, let me know if there was a thread I missed. I was struggling this week to log in my alt accounts with it asking I use Windows Hello or the PIN or something but then not accepting what I entered. I just read this post from yesterday and it seems that now to log in to Minecraft you must use the same account as is logged into Windows - have I got that right? How is everyone else managing this? It seems like a bit of a hassle but maybe there's a way to make it simple...?
What? The new launcher doesn't support alt accounts? Wow. This is crazy. Nothing will change for you, they said...
You can log in with multiple accounts in the new launcher, you just need to load them all and then click switch account each time. It's a pain.
Do you mean switch account in the launcher or switch the windows account? I used to be able to switch in the launcher, but not any longer, it gets stuck in a Windows Hello (aka Windows Hell) loop of requesting backup email and a PIN that doesn't ever work. It wants the Minecraft account to be the same as what I'm logged into Windows with. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong...but it is a huge pain.
Do you mean the launcher for Windows 7/8? Does that work OK in the later Windows versions? (If it's not obvious I'm very bad at this stuff, which is one of the reasons I play no mods no nothing)
The “old” launcher is for Windows 10/11. Give it a try. Otherwise, you could also try MultiMC. I’m not a big fan of it, so I don’t use it. As for your mods, you should at least try OptiFine. (I’m on mobile) You can go to optifine.net/downloads and download it there. Use the mirror link or it’ll try to take you through some ad screens. All you need to do to install it is run Minecraft 1.19.2 at least once, close it, and then run the OptiFine installer. You can get dynamic lighting, connected textures, more graphics settings, better performance, etc. (There’s Fabric and all of that, too, but those are slightly more complicated to install, so this is all I’ll mention about it)
I used to use optifine but I just can't be bothered now. I tried all that Fabric whatever but it just made everything crash. I'm happy with vanilla no-mods.
I've got MultiMC working (eventually) for my alts and I'm just going to keep using the default launcher for my main. Thanks everyone.
Microsoft loves making minecraft less user-friendly with every change-- quite idiotic of them, frankly. they have made having alts a burden and no longer worth the effort.
Supposedly, the old launcher will continue to be supported. Frankly though, I would be surprised if it stays so for more than two years from now.
