  1. Thanks for the note, Shel. :) I'll definitely have take a look and make sure I'm not using that.

  6. I put up with it, because I feel proud about not using an AdBlock plugin.
  7. I meant to add this earlier and well, it's better late than never.

This tool is a bit simple but that's why I like it. I use it in my business almost daily cleaning the garbage people have no idea they installed.

You may not think you installed any toolbars or addons but if you downloaded so-called FREE software, you probably installed some junk with it. If your homepage or search engine has changed, you have extra toolbars or other funny things happening with your browser, use this first. Then get a proper antivirus to look for the real nasties like trojans.

Simply download, run, click Scan, wait for it to find junk then click Clean. I have had no false positives except AVG's toolbar and that can be re-installed (but I'm not particuarly enthused about AVG).

ps: If you want to search for it, look for adwcleaner and only get it from toolslib.net or bleepingcomputer.com

pps. it may seem strange what I said earlier and then recommend some more free software but just occasionally you find one that works and doesn't add more malware. this is one of them (also use malwarebytes and superantispyware for extra AV scanning).
  8. This reminds me of a classmate of mine trying to illegally download a Percy Jackson movie on our teacher's laptop...
he clicked "next" on every window without checking what options were checked.
The laptop was ruined by all of the adware and malware, and I spent at least an hour getting it fixed.
Needless to say, we didn't end up watching the movie.
