You forget to include the reference to the cultural rise of southern Europe during the twilight of the Dark Ages. It calls back to the works of the great artist Giotto di Bondone and his efforts to revolutionize the traditional medieval style, which was both two dimensional and simplistic, much like the item in the pan. The lifting from the pan clearly is a nod to his development of the first truly three dimensional paintings since ancient Greece, where he drew his inspiration. It really is a well-crafted joke with multiple levels, requiring a wide range of knowledge to understand it. My compliments to Matheus for all the work he put into this.
