The Mine: Possibilities

can i have access to the place when its devoid of everything? ive been wanting to build deep space nine but it is huge and goes from block limit to block limit

It may take a few years for it to be depleted of everything xD
The diamond tunnel system I have planned will be very big...
The main quarry itself will be mostly empty except for the tunnel entrance and walking platforms, so you may be able to use the space

Actually, the space would make for a fantastic mob system.

Why don't you start on smp6 and build one on every server?

I made a prototype on a singleplayer world using MCedit...
I think that there could be well over a town, and a mob spawner in the same area

... I haven't thought of it that way!
Let's do that instead Build 10 mines of the same size!

because one by itself is going to take months to get close to finish

and because fall damage and nighttime are terrible when trying big builds

with utopia there will also be less griefing

And possibly kept safe by staff.

After thinking on some things, I realize that this project will leave a huge empty gap in the middle of the quarry. I think I am going to create town inside the quarry itself, and ask some friends to build a mod trap for loot. Hopefully this works out okay, and doesn't affect any thing to major >.> Now on to other matters, lava. Lots and lots of lava. There is going to be a TON of lava in this project, and lava is a really great source of fuel. But, when placed down, it is dangerous... Can anyone come up with a way to prevent from dying while the mine is being dug out?
Now, I tested out how big the quarry will be on a single player world, and it is really huge... That's why I am thinking of almost cutting in half the size of the quarry. So instead of a 600 x 600, a 360 x 360. It's still a quite a lot of blocks, however, it's a lot less than before... I would like to here what you guy's think about me changing this. Now, when this is being dug out, I was thinking about making 2 very small quarries in a place where the tunnels won't be. For instance a 20 by 20 and 60 by 60. Now, which ever one is larger, only dig halfway. Just something to have fun with

1. We need 72volt for this since it involves lava, and tons of it.

xD Yea, I wish we could have it on smp 9, but there are a lot of problems with that, so we decided on utopia ;/
If only we could have a whole world on another smp, to do this

I'll be purchasing Diamond soon so I can explode some of the blocks, and to prevent you from falling into lava:

Don't dig directly under you, dig like you're making a spiral staircase.
Always bring a bucket of water/dirt/enderpearls, just in case you encounter lava.
Fire Resistance Potions can help as well.
Warn others of lava

Only you can prevent lava burns.

This'll be a massive project alright.. 100 DC's of Stone later... xD
