[Suggestion] Warning message when entering casinos

Discussion in 'Suggestion Box Archives' started by Tuqueque, Feb 3, 2018.

  1. I got this idea, because, clearly Casinos are controvesial in a way in EMC (Read more: https://empireminecraft.com/threads/suggestion-to-ban-casinos-from-emc.75567/)

Basicly I want to suggest that when you visit a residence (using /v + casino or /v ######) which has the casino tag, a message will pop up in chat saying something like: " Remember, spend your rupees wisely "

Similar to the warning message when switching to smp8

There could be a ps setting to turn this notifications off (but I recommend defaulting on)

Now, this could make some casinos owners remove their casino tag for some reason, so I also suggest that casinos must have the casino tag (meaning that staff, when approving slot machines, they must check that the casino tag is on the residence)

PS: I wrote this on my phone, so excuse me if I didn't make any sense

  2. I think this has been discussed in the thread you posted there already, but I can still give you some technical reasons too why this wouldn't really be a good idea.

From what point would something be 'a casino'? Some small games for a little fee where you can win prizes could be considered gambling too, or are those just games for 'fun'? Also, what keeps owners for not setting a tag +gamble or +gambling? And if you want to set the same warning message for these tags too, where do you draw the line? I think it is not easy to make clear rules and limits to gambling policys.

Also I just dont think that this would be needed in general, like I explained in last thread already. But on the other hand, a warning message would be better than banning them :)

  3. -1
I personally don't think this is necessary. If people (even younger children) cannot learn how to spend their rupees, they do not deserve to have them. Think of it kind of a learning experience. :)

  4. Why do you need a warning when you're knowingly going to a casino.

  5. -1 Most casinos already say "Remember, you are NOT guaranteed to win", so I see this as highly unnecessary.

  6. +10 As an ex-casino maker, I felt that some players didn't really realize that they would go from 10k all the way down to 100r in the matter of 10 minutes. It would just make it better for newer or younger players to realize that they could lose all of their money.

Yes, all casinos are forced to do this, but wits better for a font above your hotbar or to the left of it saying SPEND YOUR RUPEES WISELY. Often, players wont read these signs, I know that many players wouldn't read all of the signs I plastered in front of them and would have to ask how to play.
  7. I don't think this would be the best perk.

However, perhaps another thing that would be safe to say is that casino owners should have to put up a sign saying the chance that you'll win from each slot machine.

Players should be smart enough to not blow all of their cash at a casino, anyways.

  8. This is already required for casino owners, not having those signs can get you banned by the current regulations ;)

  9. And should casinos not following the rule be reported? I didn't think it was mandatory :p

  10. I’d say a -1. I wasted 150k on a casino, but I knew full well what happened and I knew full well I was wasting my money in the act. Any number of warnings will NOT help.

  11. Another point that hasn't been brought up jet: I'd say it's better that people learn their lession here (aka spend too much money on a casino) instead of learning it in real life, I know people under 18 (I beleve...) mayn't gamble and we're talking about junger people, but better hhave thhe lession learned early than never I'd say.
  12. I think it's better to be safe than sorry (like, what if someone is riding their horse around town and finds a casino residence?), so it's a +1 from me.

  13. It's very clear when you see a game that is part of a casino due to our other rules regarding them. Custom coding something to tell you something you can see yourself is just another tag item to have to worry about keeping up to date. We prefer that you simply use your eyes and deductive reasoning instead of relying on coded features.
