Seems to me like there is 1 block where the light level is appropriate. That happens to me occasionally. I think it's an issue with the "smooth lighting" option. Sometimes it appears to be higher than it actually is via F3.

Vanilla client shows light levels... so everyone has a fair chance to light up their base efficiently if they wish.
Well, it's not only a problem for him. There's been a ton of gunpowder double chest auctions lately, and, a lot of people are purchasing more and more of it, due to fireworks.
Last night I was rebuilding my wild base and at one moment I got overwhelmed with mobs. I spoke with Aikar and he came out and took a look. He pointed out a few dark spots on my res and I also realized when building I forgot to light up the roof of my house. I did notice that with the new limits you have to be more aware of where you have torches. Even on top of trees. Something we just need to adjust to. I lit my place up a little better and problem solved.
