  1. Hi, it's me again!

    Yes, I know free things usually come with a price tag as well. Unreliability, or great limitations.
    However, that doesn't always seem to be the case. For example, I've been using simpsite.nl for hosting folk.simpsite for years, and it's always worked greatly. I was having a problem recently, and contacted their support, and they helped me within two days, which quite surprised me.
    However, simpsite doesn't satisfy all of my needs: I'm working with a design that works very well for text, but can't really be used to post games or big graphics.
    That's why I was using another service, 000webhost, to host such things. I'd link to the pages there from folk.simpsite.
    However, 000webhost doesn't seem to work anymore, and they don't want to do anything to help.
    So, even though I fear there's little chance of success, I'd like to ask again - as I've probably asked this question before - does anyone know of a free service to host files and pages?

    I might have to simply wait until I can afford cheap services that do cost money, but it'll probably be at least 3-4 years until I get a job, and until then, even $2.15 a month is a bit much for something I'm doing just for fun and something which is hardly getting any use.
  2. I've been quite happy with the stuff WordPress offers, see http://wordpress.com/

    Don't let the "blogging" part fool you. Although WordPress is most often used for blogging (see also the EMC blog and all) you can also easily make whole sites with it. Now, obviously you'll get more out of that if you get a subscription but the free plan also allows for plenty of options.

    The only possible downside is that there might be some ads placed on your site which is used by WordPress. But not in an annoyingly way, it never bothered me for my own stuff (I have a blog with WordPress myself (http://shelluser.wordpress.com) but use it quite sporadically.

    And it's free ;)

  3. If you're going to use Wordpress, definitely use the self-hosted version (.org). The hosted version (.com) doesn't even compare.

    If you're currently a student, I believe you can get free Digital Ocean credit via Github Education - so while it's not permanently free, it's a proper hosting service that you can use for free. I think Microsoft offer something similar for students with Azure - you can host 10 websites on it for free or something (no idea about the limits and stuff though).

  4. My Hosting;
    https://www.1and1.ca/vps-hosting

    I have tired free hosting but Never had luck with it. Although i always wanted a custom domain. Right now I use a VPS thats 5$ a Month, and i host many sites on it.
    Some of those are;
    https://bookexchange.ca/
    A Book exchange for College and University Students. Think of a a site where you can post items for sale, but this is only for Students. You are able to search by books, School, area, and so much more. (Although I have it closed, need a few bugs fixed, and to host it i need a Massive server due to the resources it will take to run).

    This is my page where i document builds, as i can use to show people and use past builds for idea's in new builds and all.

    http://minecraftparadise.tk/index.php
    This is a Outpost on SMP6 I am part of, and I am trying to get them to use the site, but not working too well.

    http://kurashiki.tk/
    This is my outpost on smp7, and we use it for everything.

    All the above sites are all WIP's, And i have a few more sites that are Very WIP.

    I choose a VPS as i have full control on the server, and I can program as i wish. I also have the experience for my work industry.

    If you are looking for something such as full control, i would strongly suggest a VPS, as you get a dedicated amount of hardware.

    From that, If you also want a good CDN, I use Cloudflare, as its a CDN, and free, as well as helps for protection of sites IP address against attacks.

    Although if you are looking for cheap hosting there are sites, like Host Gator where its a Shared hardware amount a bunch of users but cheap hosting.

    Host Gator;

  5. I did think Wordpress was quite limited, but it's been a while since I last looked into it.
    I'll do it tomorrow, if I manage to cool the area my pc's in down enough so that I can bear lingering there. :)
    I might look into that as well, although I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm currently still finish up secondary education, and next year I'm going to be studying at an instance (is that the right term to use?) that doesn't get recognised by government.

    Also: ads wouldn't be a problem per se, as long as they won't get in the way of the content. As in, if I want to have a window-size game, the ad could be under it, or to the right of it. But some free services have a very fixed lay-out, and then my applications won't fit.
  6. Found a Hosting might be looking into...
    http://www.uhostfull.com/free-hosting.php

    I might look into using it as a Database for all the images and files... as they offer unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage.

  7. I've had a great experience with heliohost.org in the past. They offer free webhosting packages with almost no limitations, a full version of cPanel and a very nice and easy-to-use software installer. For support, they have a community forum.

    They offer only a limited amount of free webhosting packages a day though, and they tend to run out very quickly. The counter resets at midnight (in their timezone, is not too far from or equal to EMC time iirc).

    You should definitely give it a try ;)

    EDIT: 000webhost is not to be trusted. A while back usernames and passwords have been stolen and made publuc because of how careless 000webhost handles user information. If you can, stop using them asap.

  8. That gets blocked by my web blocker because it's categorises as 'Phishing' and 'Suspicious'... I might add an exception for it and check it out, but I'll see if I can do with what the others linked first.
    Interesting!
    I'll try to delete my 000webhost account, if possible... but I'm using unique passwords for it anyway, so I'm not at much risk outside of my files being stolen, which isn't really a problem either.

  9. With regards to Heliohost: Yesterday, after 24 hours had passed, I could access my website outside of the control panel. However, now I get the 'Account Queued' page again.
  10. Hmmm, I haven't had that problem when I used it. But then again, it has been quite a while since I used HelioHost. I'd suggest asking for help on their forums.
