Huh, that's really weird! I've also never seen auto-generated BB code tags on EMC that are uncapitalised, I think...

that's just me being lazy (but for example the "quote" that I see in front of me right now is uncapitalized)

Huh, weird! They work fine for me, both visually, and when quoting them.

If I'm on my phone (which is most of the time), I type the tags myself, which I always ensure is fully lowercase.

That's an interesting graph. Even with some googling, I can't tell what it means very well. I think the different DIN numbers represent different types of material?
