  1. So as the title says I figured we could have a main thread to discuss the state of EMC's economy. This thread I would like to try and stay on track on discussing what the state of the current economy is and how we can improve it.

In my eyes currently there way too much rupees in circulation AND too many rupees getting into circulation along with NOT enough rupees leaving it. What I see currently is a dwindling player base and not an active economy.

What I would love to see done is simple... rupees leaving the economy (ikr against what everyone is saying ) However this is an outsider looking in point of view... I have no education on large scale economy functions I simply know how to make money.

How I propose we do this! I propose that EMC puts in a "Shopping Center" where players come to rent booths / shops and are able to sell stuff. I've seen similar things on another server (a prison server) where there were cells and people rented a cell to sell stuff. I think this might work well due to the fact that there aren't as many players as there were back in the Prime of EMC so less players and more rupees equals what is going on now while back in "my day" there were less rupees and more players.

There has got to be a happy medium where everyone can play and shop and actually make rupees. I also wanted to point out there were ~16,000 people playing in march of 2015 based off of a screenshot I know of on an old EMC thread and just last May there were only 3,100 players  (this includes alt accounts)
  2. Out of those 3,100 players/alts, a portion of them are players who joined and left after a few minutes... the actual "active" player count is probably way lower than that :/

Less players = less shop activity = hard for new players to get rupees = players quitting = less players
  3. If you would like this to be a general thread for discussing the EMC economy, I think that it would have been better to not put your suggestion in the OP. Now, several pages from now, when the topic might have moved onward, new people will likely still comment on that suggestion, even if it might not be relevant anymore.
But maybe this won't be as much of an issue as I suppose.

  4. I'm not sure I'm seeing this economy tank. Sure, I have slow months. For the most part my shop stays plenty busy.
Keeping it stocked is a chore as it is. Not positive if its because, I have incentives to keep people coming back with my C.O.M. (Customer of the Month) or that it's rarely out of stock.
I spend a lot of rupees at other shops also, I even came to yours Seft.:D As far as rupees leaving the server. I got rid of 15,000 rupees yesterday for 3 more residents Not that, that helps anyone.
I do agree we need more players. It would be nice to see something done about shops that aren't shops or are never stocked.

  5. The economy is on a downward turn, and unless something major happens, which would bring hundreds of thousands of players to EMC, things aren't going to get any better anytime soon.

1.13 or 1.14 being released today/tomorrow will relieve some of the stress, but it'll be a very minor relief because I doubt all the users who own the super malls are willing to go through all the work to revamp their places for the new update just for the same 4 or 5 people who play on the server.

That's my opinion, but I do agree with some posts made above; being someone who lives on SMP6, I'm the only "active" player that still goes on there and sticks around. The others are alts by the same person or the players simply do not live on SMP6 to keep the SMP6 economy "alive". --- RIP SMP6, I knew thee well... :(

  6. 'Hundreds of thousands of players'... well, that'd certainly make the supporter vouchers get a reasonable worth again. :p

  7. If... that's what how you value your money and if that's what you want to throw it at, then sure, I guess...

  8. Well, you likely won't ever be able to play without a supportership if there are that many active players, of course.
PS: But I think it's completely implausible that we'd get that many players, and also unnecessary. A couple ten thousand would be enough already, I reckon!

  9. I don't think the economy's in a bad spot right now. I mean obviously it's changed a whole lot since I joined EMC and rupees aren't worth as much as they were 7 years ago, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Inflation is one of those things that was bound to happen regardless with so much money entering the economy. EMC's economy is set up so that there will always be an excess of rupees entering, and there's no quick or easy solution to that

  10. That's why we get new players to do it for us ;)
Obviously, more players = better emc
  11. That's not going to happen anytime soon; the economy is just going to continue to suffer.

  12. How would players be able to shop without rupees though? Maybe we can put some more stress on the devs by making so that players have to buy stuff with items somehow

Maybe instead of making shopping booths, we could make a "Shopping world" or "Marketplace" which is where players could buy (rupees or money), claim, rent, etc. a res/plot where they can build a shop. If res/plots there were sold with rupees, it would also encourage players to try to gain more rupees for more than just collecting promos, etc. I personally find it that there is not really much value in rupees.

Of course, players could make a farmers market sort of thing like you described if they wish. If the staff gets creative they can make different tiers for the size, price, stock, etc. of a shop so that shopping players can get around easier (the staff would, of course, "tier" the shops themselves).

We could also let the res/plots have casinos and such - this could possibly be the only server you could use rupees on. Maybe we could add a public "auction house" on a protected res by the staff for players to display, all sorted out by items, future or current auctions, increasing the use of the auction section of the forums and encouraging players to join so that they could bid on auction. It took me a few years to learn that auctions even existed and another year to learn how to do them myself, so this could prove really useful.

There is also the problem of so many smps which spaces all the players out, making it seem to new players that there is less people online than there actually is. I'm not sure adding another server just for marketplace would be smart when keeping this in mind, but it does help with many other things as listed above. :)

Edit: well that was probably one of my longest posts XD
  13. Unless something smart happens quickly, of course.
  14. 1) 1.14 is coming today/tomorrow??? (posted 1 month ago)
    2) Utopia is dead too, rip :(
  15. Welcome to modern EMC mate. It's dying quicker than people have been projecting for a long long time...
