  1. So, I found this cool math trick on Instagram (=P) and I thought I would share it with you guys. :D

    1. Take a number

    2. Double it

    3. Add six

    4. Half it

    5. Subtract from the number you started with

    6. Your answer is three

    Example:
    1. 6
    2. 6 + 6 = 12
    3. 12 + 6 = 18
    4. Half of 18 is 9
    5. 9 - 6 = 3
    6. Answer is 3

    Try it ;)
(also, I requested my white stained clay thread to be closed in case I am not allowed to have more than one thread at the same time)
  2. If you leave out Step 3, your number doubled, then halved, then subtracted from itself leaves zero. When you add six in Step 3 then halve the result, you have added three, which explains why the result is always three.

  3. You're allowed to have as many threads as you want, but can only have one auction going at a time.

  4. Thanks! I won't be doing auctions very much bye :p
  5. Urm... it returns the original number in half. Did it with 2009:
    2009 * 2 = 4018
    4018 + 2009 = 6027
    6027 / 2 = 3013.5
    3013.5 - 2009 = 1004.5
    --
    2009 / 2 = 1004.5
  6. 1. Take a number-2009

    2. Double it-4018

    3. Add six-4024

    4. Half it-2012

    5. Subtract from the number you started with 2012-2009

You are basically subtracting your original number from itself and adding 3, which results as 3 every time

    6. Your answer is 3

  7. x * 2 = 2x
    2x + 6
    2x + 6/2 = x + 3
    x + 3 - x = 3
  8. I'll tell you a math trick I made up a long time ago:

Take the square of a number

    we'll use 4 ...which is 16

Take the square of the next number in sequence

    which would be 5 - so 25

take the difference of the two squares

    25-16 = 9

    add 2

    9+2 = 11

add that to the last highest square, which is 25

    25 + 11 = 36

36 square rooted is 6 (the next number in the sequence)

    ------

    36-25 = 11

    11+2 = 13

    36 + 13 = 49

square root of 49 is 7 ...see the pattern? ;)

  9. My bad! I was reading from the OP and how he did it. Turns out he used six as his example >.<
  10. I guess that's why they call you.... Matheus

  16. Therefore, we know that window = 3. Nice work, EMC. We've done good math today.

  18. this is why:

the red is basically add three

    the green is x-x+3=3
