?

Is this a fairly O.K. forum to post this thread into? I wasn't sure about that.

  1. I don't know. Maybe it is just me.
I have tried out 1.8, and I will say that it really does not change gameplay that much.
    Sheep give meat.
    Rabbits.
Couple new different types of blocks.
Slimeblocks <-- ok, this one is pretty cool.
Lapis required to enchant, and totally new xp system. <--blah, not looking forward to this
Underwater temples <-- meh, this is kinda cool...

Maybe I am just one of the minority who could care less about the things above.
Then again, I tend to just get out, and mine a lot when time allows.

I don't think that 1.8 is really that great that there will be that much more 'fun'.
I know that 1.8 is 'new and fancy', and people seem to be excited, however I just feel 'meh' about it so far.
In the meantime, before things chance, I will enjoy things as they are right now.
  2. I am looking forward to making hopper minecart based and villager based farms myself. Also the new height differences in baby animals compared to adults makes for better optimized farms. Those are what I am mainly excited about.

  3. Minecraft 1.8 has been viewed pitch black and pure white, all or nothing, heaven or hell.

I have shifted between the two viewpoints constantly. Right at this moment, 1.8 for EMC is black to me. I feel like there's nothing more to do before EMC updates, and from all the negatively and pessimism being spread across the Internet I'm furthermore repelled from the in-game servers.
So, currently I wouldn't log onto EMC except for voting rewards.
  4. Who was that 1 person in the poll...
  5. It is a public poll, so you can click the number of votes and see who voted for what.:)
  6. One property of 1.8 (the slime blocks) I feel could cause EMC considerable problems in cpu time is the ability to construct pilotless flying machines, and because it is novel I can foresee a lot of people doing it causing massive lag and/or crash. :(
  7. I can go ahead and say pilotless flying machines will be disabled. We cant have uncontrolled machinery endlessly loading chunks... There will be no debate over this.

Well have to see about ones where the player is on board, and take action if they cause too many problems.

  8. I asked Aikar in-game when he thought the 1.8 update would be out. He said it would be out in about a month. Hope for 2. ;)

  9. Just looked short at it, Can doors till work with slime blocks. that would solve some hugh problems you cannot do now.
  10. I play in 1.8 but you're right. There really isn't that many perks. There's new doors and slime blocks and improved mob als. All of the other stuff, I would never really use anyways. The lapis thing and the XP thing are the 2 things that I think are just ugh. The new enchant tables (lapis aside) are neat though. They tell you what you're gonna get before you spend your levels on it. All in all, I don't think 1.8 is something EMC needs.
  11. I feel like anyone who says that 1.8 doesn't have much to offer couldn't possibly have spent much time playing it.

Here is a list of things that added or improved in 1.8

    1. A fantastic new underwater walking enchant.

    2. Underwater Monuments that add fun and challenging new mobs.

    3. Sponges are now useable. They have been nerfed to be less OP from creative mode, and are added to the game. These are going to be a very useful tool for anyone who wants to build underwater.

    4. 10 new decorative blocks. And a very pretty new lighting block. 10 new blocks is a huge deal to anyone who likes to build. Plus these blocks lean towards a more high end look, which has been lacking in MC. I see a lot of fantastic grand buildings being constructed. Like cathedrals and great mansions.

    5. Slime Blocks, which are going to provide a huge amount of entertainment and experimentation. Some of the inventions so far have been fantastic. I can not wait to see what the inventive people of EMC can do with them.

    6. Fences, doors, gates, have been updated to match their wood color. People have been begging and pleading for this for ages.

    7. Armor Stands. I am truly in love with this. And it will only be better in EMC. I already have plans to build a beautiful library on my lot and have patrons standing around my plot with EMC heads. Like a librarian with a Pab10s head.

    8. Banners. These are an endless amount of fun. I love and think it is so creative how they have made it to allow you to create a numerous amount of designs. I love that they gave cauldrons another use in removing layers of design from the banners.

    9. Rabbits, which are adorable and add a new item used to create a new potion.

    10. A new fun leaping potion.

    11. Villager Mechanics. - This is a fascinating new addition. I am excited to play with automating farming processes.

    12. Enchanting Mechanics - this is strange to get used to, but after you do it is fantastic. I love the new enchanting system. This is exactly what enchanting should always have been. You have the ability to see one of the enchants which will go onto your item, but there is still some randomness there. This allows you to be more thoughtful in your selections. It isn't as much just crossing your fingers and hoping. The addition of Lapis is not at all restricting but at the same time adds value to the little blue dye shards. The way your XP spends is fantastic as well. XP is still important and you need to gather it like always, however you get a much better bang for your buck. Instead of going to an xp farm getting to lvl 30 and enchanting, getting to 30 and enchanting getting to 30 and enchanting ... You will be able to get to 30 or so and then get several nice enchants from it. It is a much better bang for your buck, with less tedious back and forth involved. And for those of you who don't want people using mob traps. This is going to cut back on some of the time people need to spend at one.

    13. You can now craft the previously uncraftable items:
    Chisled stone brick
    cracked stone bricks
    mossy stone
    mossy stone bricks
This is also a fantastic update for builders. You never see building done with these blocks because they are so rare to find on a server. Now people will be bale to use them regularly and I look forward to seeing what creative things will be built.

    14. Items frames now give off a redstone signal based on how an item is turned in the frame. This is going to create some fun new inventions.

    15. New Mob AI - the new work on the mobs has created a much more entertaining experience when out fighting mobs. It just generally creates a richer environment. Mobs are smarter and it adds a new dimension of difficulty other than just .. more health and damage.

    16. New dying leather armor. Dyes can now be mixed when dying leather armor. This created a huge number of possibilities in creating colored leather armor. The colors are more vibrant on the armor, and it generally looks better. I'm excited to use this to dress my Pab10s librarian. :)

    17. Improved Book Copying: This will be a fantastic addition to people who like to create in game literature and sell or give it to others.

    In summarizing:
This update really has a little of something for everyone. It gives the world of Minecraft a much needed refreshing and a fantastic new depth. It is an important update and is well worth any effort or dealing with bugs on the part of the player.
  12. Well... what do you want?
1.8 with all that fancy stuff and a 20-30 player cap
    or
1.7.10 with a 40 player cap and less lag/glitches etc
  13. Play cap doesn't bother me. I spend plenty of time online as a free member. The few times I've gotten a "server is full" message I have waited a couple minutes (tops) and tried again successfully. If you don't like the cap, donate.

Guess what. We play on a server that is not supported by the game makers. There are going to be bugs. It doesn't matter what version you are. There are plenty of bugs in game now. It is just something you are going to have to accept. 1.8 has been out for for over 4 months. Spigot has had a stable release now for almost 2 months. The game itself is not going to get more stable from this point forward. So waiting isn't going to improve the bugs we have to deal with. Any bugs we have to deal with are going to be there weather we update today or two months from now.

No one is asking Aikar to drop everything in his life to work on the server. We are questioning his in game server priorities, which we have a right to do. We play here, many of us - including myself - have at one point or another invested our money into the server. We have a right to ask questions. And that is all it is. A respectful questioning of the priorities.

If we don't express our concerns there is no way for the staff to know we have them. 1.8 is a content rich update. Despite any problems it brings, it is important to many people.
  14. I still would have preferred twilight forest bunnies :) (maybe squirrels too)

  15. Haha, the squires are cute. The rabbits, are really cute in the face, but the legs look more like puppy legs. I like the legs on the ones they put in.
  16. Your a very pleasant person

  17. My ideal time frame for EMC 1.8's release is before June. For a day of a week, not on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday (default weekend).

Slime blocks are opaque and semi-transparent blocks. They can conduct redstone, like most blocks and have transparent textures.
  18. thanks :)

  19. 1. If play cap is lowered to lets say 25 you will not be able to play more then 50% of the time
    2. Uhm I do donate...
    Michael_Nolan and TigerstarMC like this.
  20. The point of the Cap is, partly, to get people to donate. (It is also to control server resources)

If you donate you don't have to worry about the cap. They won't lower the cap to an unreasonable number. That would drive players away and would be counter productive. Updating the server isn't going to cause them to have to lower the cap. Do you think we are never going to upgrade to 1.8? You are over reacting.

We are simply saying that 1.8 is an important update to us. We are simply asking it be made a priority over cosmetic things like a game server.
