Do you think a minecraft Hunger Games is a good idea?

No, bad idea. 4 vote(s) 4.8%
  1. I'll wear assassin creed skin if I get to play this :D
  2. you could make chest by the start for starters items ;P
  3. wow thats awesome! i was just thinking about making this yesterday! do it, do it i say! do it!
  4. So I completely missed the boat with this, you're talking about running it outside of EMC? I was thinking it would be an arena on one of the EMC servers.

I'm immediately less of a fan if we've got to login to another server system to do this. I personally have a server, but I don't want to have to monitor all of this running.
  5. Thanks everyone for your overly positive responses! I'm glad this is something many are willing to support.

Yes, the plan is to run it on a different server to EMC so we have complete control over the modification of it. There would be two or three trusted gamemakers (admins) in creative who would monitor and keep everything running properly, as well as introduce a twist or two...

I was thinking the arena would be a sectioned off biome (with a few custom things added) and that none of the tributes would get pickaxes so as to limit where they can go a bit. My idea was to keep the action to a couple of hours at the most.
  6. i would love to play and or build
  7. I remember suggesting something similar to this, but I had no poll. Thanks, godog4! And may the odds EVER be in your arrowtotheknee favor.

  8. Maybe utopia could be the capitol?
  9. this is perfect.when EMC has 12 servers(not counting utopia)we should assign that server number that district.Utopia can be the Capitol, and I could help build the arena(ironically,I've already built 1 on my friend's server. :) )
  10. this would be really cool to play count me in!
  11. I will be male tribute from "District" 6. I have extreme sword bow skills that can easily take down foes from a tree, and i can craft things very quickly.
  12. ima get a gale skin, maybe peeta. Does anyone remember any tributes from district 6 in any of the books?
  13. From what I read, it seems you guys want to turn EMC into the hunger games? THAT, is a bad idea. The main idea could work, but I would not brand it as the Hunger games.

  14. I got DIBS on the male version of Katniss, I get the bow!!! :D Cato, u can have the diamond sword, idc, i'll snipe ur hand. JUST so u can b EATEN BY DOGS!!! lol
  15. Totally in support of this idea. It would require a lot of planning, coordination with mods, and its own server. But if we can pull it off, it would be yet another reason why EMC is so great. I think if someone can make a good rule set and how we should go about doing this, then shows it to an admin, we might be able to get it through.

Also i'd love to be a tribute, or at least a token character such as president snow or a mentor. OW we need mentors who can get rupees from ppl to buy gifts for their tributes which the GMs would drop into them
  16. In my opinion the Hunger Games were pretty dark, but as a Minecraft event, I would definitely participate. I have a few ideas for this. Since there are 8 servers total, you could have 3 "tributes" from each server participate. On the winning Tribute's server, everyone gets 1 stack of bread! ( and rupees. I can't live off of bread ).
Please read and take into consideration if you likey.
  17. Alright. I (and many others) have been talking on the PvP server about this kind of thing. I've been on to this idea since, really, I first started multiplayer. And it is a fantastic idea, when it works. Like many have said, this would require lots and LOTS of planning. But I think that some people are getting a little over-excited and past the point. If you are planning on having 24 tributes, along with gamemakers and all that, this could get EXTREME LAG on just a regular, PC-run server. (unless, of course, said PC has over 64GB of RAM and is just overall pimped out) The point I'm making here is that the running and staging of this idea would be better handled by the EMC staff. As for game experience itself:
I think moose mentioned the time reserved for players who lag. I agree. This idea is already implemented on the regular smp's, to prevent loss of a slot when a player lags out. The reserve time for The Hunger Games should be the same (60 sec) so that you would not be DQ'd if your minecraft crashed and you weren't able to get it up and running.

Depends on how many servers there are by the time we make up our minds on this, but as there are currently 10 (with smp8 and 9 being counted) this is what I propose. Naturally, this is subject to change if we get more servers. Every server gets two 'tributes'. The tributes would be chosen in a reaping for each server. The names entered in the reaping would be VOLUNTARY. So you have to volunteer to be entered in the reaping, but from there it's not your choice. And no volunteering for other tributes. This is NOT a life and death situation as it is in the books, so there's no disadvantage to playing (not dying, of course) In order to volunteer for a server, you must own a res on that server. After 20 tributes have been chosen (again, as we have 10 servers) four new tributes will be drawn from the pool of unchosen players on all servers.

All the tributes, on the set day of the commencement of the Hunger Games, will be taken to the Capitol, where (for just a few hours, probably less) they will practice and show off their skills to be rated by the admins and staff. Each tribute will be given a body skin for the Hunger Games. They will keep the head from the skin they choose, and be given matching clothes with different numbers to identify servers. Each player will start with NOTHING. No bows, swords, anything from the outside world. (btw, I can help with skins and such)

All items will be at the Cornucopia, a big, open-faced structure with all sorts of goodies in it. The goodies will depend on what the admins/gamemakers want. Beware that this area is often the bloodbath, in Book 1 the first 6-8 tributes died in fights around the Cornucopia.

Because I'll be held without internet for large chunks of the next week, I'll be spending a lot of time on single player, and I can recreate the setup my brother used for his Hunger Games.

Now, the big problem. There are multiple solutions to deal with this, but all of them have big downsides. We have over 25,000 players, from all over the world, with different schedules and different timezones. Therefore, it is going to be almost impossible to get all the tributes on at once. One solution is to work out schedules of all the tributes and find common time. However, many things in life come unplanned, so some people might have to just leave randomly. Another solution is that if someone DC's, after 60 secs, the whole server is shut down until the other person gets back on. And naturally, we'd have to play with some plugins, for sure hiding nameplates above the player, and DeathNotification so that you know when someone's dead.
Sorry for the longness, I'll be adding as I think of more.
PS: I would like to help head this project up, while still being able to play. I love the books, and this can get very addictig when executed properly.

  18. JabrZer0 and I proposed this to Justin a few months ago, so he has at least thought about it.

That being said there are a few 'kinks' to work around. For one, the assigning of numbers from the game makers would be nearly impossible to do. This is because every person in Minecraft can swing a sword, or shoot a bow.

Next, having the cornucopia would also be nearly impossible. This is because if it were in a chest, then who ever was looking in the chest would be punched to death, so no one could open it to get anything to begin with. But on the other hand, the items can't just be lying around since the first player to approach them would collect everything. Having everything laying around could work, if inventories were limited, or if there were stacks of dirt mixed in with everything.
  19. Sounds like a really awesome idea [Even though never read the books. xD] I'll par-take in this! :3 [smp1 FYI.]
