What does Autism feel like..?

  1. Perhaps you'll reevaluate that assessment when I tell you that when I took the ACT, the reading category was the lowest score. :p
  2. Just as a character in a game can't have max stats in everything, autists can't have superpowers in everything, it'd be overpowered and unfair on the neurologically normal people. :p

  3. That was interesting, It's things like this that will help people realize that autism/adhd/Augsburg (among others) are real illness, and we have a Mental health system that is beyond repair! I have been told I am autistic a few times, don't want to go get checked tough, sometimes the problem is better that its medications side effects, and sometimes you can use it to your advantage (par say, hearing sounds that others can't is good for mixing songs). Not saying it is a good thing to have it, but just taking what you have and using it to your advantage.

  4. I just took the test, and I scored 124% faster than the avg. Which is also about 10ish years above my age :D
  5. In my opinion, I do not wish to be more "normal". It can be very hard that it is so difficult to communicate and the people around me misunderstand me so often and I misunderstand them, and I can not go somewhere eating because I'll have to hear 30 people at once, and well, that's exhausting, but I still feel special. I am extremely good at some things, especially things with gaming and focus - even while I can't focus on something IRL - (hexagon, w00t:P) and I see things other people don't see. I am very smart and want to understand everything. I can't stand changes. When something suddenly happens, I will freak out. When our time table will change due to a test week or something, I'll have to know it one week ahead. For special days, we'll write down everything what will happen and on what times, so I know what to expect. So I'm tired very fast and can not just do whatever I want, go out with friends, et cetera, but I'm still very happy with my life and I wouldn't want to be different, most of the time :)
  6. You guys seem to be able to express youselves a lot more than me, I find it hard to even be happy, without freaking somehow. I agree with you 607, timetables and organisation are everything. :p I'm probably a lot more stressed as well, with many other things in my life to deal with, which may be why I don't seem to handle things as well

  7. Pretty sure its not autism, but on days where i'm exhausted, I tend to feel the way that video attempts to make viewers, err, listeners feel.

And for that test, managed to get 495% faster. However, I had read through the passage a couple times before and new the questions...
  8. My brother has Autism, and it breaks my heart to see the struggles that he goes through everyday. Autistic people are some of the strongest people I know. I couldn't last a day in my brother's shoes, he does things everyday that would break most men. Thank you for posting this, it's something that people need to see.

  9. For example, today at school we had a running test and we watched a movie where I cried. That two things have exhausted me and I can't learn my tests now. I tend to feel worthless, but I know that I did good at the running, so I can be happy. But still, when I'm exhausted so fast, I am often depressed :( But luckily I have friends, EMC, parents and God :)

  10. I am still hearing the sounds of the video :'( ...once i hear things they play over and over in my head ...and more things pop up in my head and they keep adding to the resonant sounds. I generally play multiple songs in my head at the same time all the time...so if someone is skyping with me, they generally know I can randomly start singing something or know what a song is in a few seconds...

Btw this was my result to the speed reader.

  11. How can everyone do better than the average?
  12. Hmm, another person to add to the autism conversation which I still have to make...

  15. i also have a form of autisim (aspergers) but the video didn't have much effect on me. sounds mostly have a effect if there are sources from several different directions so computer speakers made it not a problem. though i do feel the aspergers helps with certain tasks. (i'm one of the top ranked enchanters)

  16. My brother is austic, and it makes it so that he can HARDLY talk in sentences, but he's smart.
I think I'm also somewhat austic, and have a little ADHD. :(
  17. Neither of those disorders are worth being ashamed of. With time and patience, the effects can be suppressed. :)

  18. Along with most of the participants here, I'm Autistic, but not on the spectrum where I'm unable to verbally speak. I colored the key words in the quotes above that I had experienced. I'll explain more about the information from each one going up to down.

    Increased Brain Activity
I definitely know that there's more going on within me because I had times where I would be obsessed with something, and sometimes the thoughts constantly cycle and distract me on whatever I am doing.

    Logic Behind Occurrences
I would describe myself as a critical thinker, but sometimes my thought processes go too far in-depth, like "the meaning of life". Depending on the thought, it can cause me to cry or in other negative ways.

    Shutting Down
I think of a "shut down" as when something is completely inactive. This can happen in not just electronics, but people. I experience it when I have to make a decision (including on what to type in this post). I also had moments where I'm not confident to do something even if I'm usually able to preform well at it.
For example: I was trying to build a slime farm, and I wasn't feeling confident to decorate because I was continuously worried that the result would be terrible yet if you have seen my builds on SMP5, you would probably agree that I'm advanced at building.
I originally viewed this thread to find out if I could help myself, and I was wondering if somebody

in the EMC community could help me. Thank you for reading if you did all the way!

  19. I can completely relate to this. Often times, I find myself wasting twenty minutes on math problems I would normally solve in one! :p
  20. I cant relate to it, but i can recommend a good movie that was made a few years ago called rain men, it shows what it can be like, and how it was treated back then.
