smp7 - jungle outpost

  1. The page count is a new record every time a page is added. :)

  2. any time someone says something in this thread its an EMC record. I wish I could find that post by a mod about our length and all being on-topic. I think it was between 200 and 400 pages ago.

  3. more proof that the llo is one of (if not the greatest) minecraft towns/cities ever, if not the best

  5. well we had some off-topic discussions but I think we do a really good job of getting back on topic and / or diverting the off-topic stuff to other places. if not some mods would probably have warned us about locking it long a time ago. :)

so in that spirit back to the actual topic :D

I am playing around in chunky a lot as long as I have access to the supercomputer my friend is running.
feel free to send me links to world saves of the LLO or even just your build and an idea what to render there.
you can use this tool to save the parts
    http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1444862-145-world-downloader-mod/
note that I (or the other chunky people here) will need all the chunks you want to have in the picture in the world file. so if you want to have great view for an outside rendering you will have to walk around a bit to get the scenery.
also be aware that indoor or night views take longer to render esp if there are many lightsources.

to all the other chunky LLO people:
should we make an "official" LLO group and a shared gallery?
we could organize doing renders for others and share world saves for example.

  11. https://sites.google.com/site/emclastlightoutpost/files

the one that I use for my renderings is more current but taken shortly after a griefer attack:
"Last light outpost save november 2012 by jaari"
    http://www.mediafire.com/?6duuv4tynd9gcci

there was an older one too but the link seems to be down.
"LLO Single Player Edition by Omeltrice"

I haven't seen omelet here for a while but Pandas knows her.
Pandas: Do you still have a copy of that file? It was made back in june and I'd like to do some historical LLO renderings :)

  12. Yea me too panda!

Edit at lest we got some what of a standered rail design passed.

  15. Here are my current results from Chunky.:

    Treefarm:

    Griefed West:

    Concert Hall / Minigolf closeup:

    Bridge view to east:

    Arrival at Grand Central:

Eternal Source Tower - big picture view:

Philotower at dawn (experimental sky texture):

Some images are still a bit grainy (esp the ones with little natural light). I am still learning stuff so I do not want to wait several hours (or days) for them to render.
  16. Some grainy gives a better look to it lol
    Jakres and Philovanrood like this.
  17. Yeah. This is why I want to have the old world save. I can do some quick grainy renderings, add some nice black & white filters and (I hope) it will look awesome.
Jakres, Dwight5273 and Jimbonothing64 like this.
  18. Yea I think thats a cool idea!

  19. Some findings and a question to the community:

    Findings:
Chunky experiment resulsts regarding rendering time on the machine I am using atm:
I am trying to find out what the main factors are to make a quick render that is not too grainy.

The more lightsources there are the longer it takes (and I mean much longer).
So night shots or indoor shots takes longer.

Changing resolution does not seem to make rendering times much longer. This might change if you want a really high quality picture (= lots of SPPs)

Number of chunks used seems NOT to make rending take much longer if you got enough ram.
It seems the more chunks I select the more ram the program uses and the bigger the files it creates while working are. So in addition ram you will need some free space on a fast drive too or it will take much longer.

This means that outdoor shots at day will be really quick and easy to do. Night shots or indoor shots will take longer.
With enough horse power the number of chunks or resolution of the image do not seem to be that big of a deal.

Question to the community at large:
Should we put the chunky-related stuff to another thread or do you think this is interesting?
I can imagine some people might be bored by this technical talk here. I personally enjoy it a lot but it would be no problem to move this to a seperate thread.

    EDIT:
I only talk about discussions about chunky or what and how to render. I think we all enjoy the posting of LLO renderings (= the results of someone working with chunky).
