Actually they can. They can get up and leave. You guys are playing with fire. I've seen too many people get burned and lose their playerbase. EMC used to have over 200 players on all the time, now its rare to hit 100. You have already driven away people like me. Don't drive away the others. Stop while you can.
Can someone explain to me what the problem actually is? I only read the first couple of pages and just see people saying the same thing over and over and I'm still not seeing the problem. The only thing I take issue with is the 'don't advertise in chat or statuses' thing. The 'no bumping auction threads' rule literally had the solution spelled out: check the auctions forum section when you want to bid on an auction. That takes, like, two seconds. Maybe you're not going to learn to do that right away, as with any change, but I'm sure it'll come to you eventually. I don't do auctions and with twenty people liking a single post criticising the rule, maybe I'm wrong. But I'm really not seeing the issue. I just see people making easily refuted points about how it's too much effort to click the forum tab and scroll down to the auctions sub-section like they would to make a thread in there. Maybe it's the fact it's 3AM and I need to sleep or maybe I'm just not an auctioneer so I don't understand the mentality, but... I'm also not one to educate people on how to treat the staff, having been on mod watch and then making statuses about how it annoyed me so much I was now going to spam the forums to make their job harder, but come on, 'respectfully asking Krysyy to step down as community manager'? I'm sure she's acknowledging your issues, and if the rule really doesn't work out she'll heel spin on the policy, but is just asking that you actually try to work with the rule instead of resisting change because it's change. Going a bit too far there man. I for one am happy I won't have five auction threads in the recently active when I don't even really want to see them.
Exactly. This is only feeding fuel to a fire and making it worse so I also agree we need to let this topic go and let the changes run its course. And this is only a test run so if Krysyy feels like this won't work she can revert to the original method. But for now like I said before let it run the course.
The analogy is flawed so it's a little hard to get the point of it. It's getting late and I need food myself. I'm going to take a break and leave this on the same note I've repeated over and over again. An adjustment period is necessary for a rule change like this. We know it's a big change and we aren't going to punish anyone severely or anything. We're hoping for the intended results to surface and they will be worth it. If, after the adjustment period, we conduct a poll and there is a significant reason to revert the change, then we'll discuss doing so. We're not going to post that poll for a few weeks at minimum because the auctions need time to stabilize in order to provide valid results. Right now it's all in turmoil, as expected. Consider it an experiment. We have a hypothesis and we are currently testing it. If it works, then fantastic. If not, back to the drawing board. Nothing is set in stone forever.
My friend, you haven't even been active in-game in quite a while (also I believe you have said this yourself), so I do respect your opinion, however, I don't think its right for you to talk about how many auctions are active on the forums (via the sidebar) when you are on a minecraft server...
Really my only problem with the change is the barrage of single block auctions spamming up the list. Like... one dirt block? Seriously? It just clutters up the space and pushes aside the genuine auctions. I don't want to be bombarded by dirt blocks when I'm trying to look at the more serious, less jokey auctions.
I'ma just repost this here and I want to thank you Krysyy for you time. I feel as if one week is fair... A week is along time and people expect to lose a lot more money if it's any longer. If you do a poll in one week I feel as if that will be a fair compromise.
I realize this was only posted not even an hour ago, but since it has been lost in pages of memes and arguing, I feel the need to bump it because I would like an answer.
The main problem that people are having is that the rules, when put together, makes the auctions not worth doing. This is mainly what we don't like. If you couldn't bump threads you could still advertise them and have people find them that way, if you couldn't advertise them you could still bump them and have people find them that way. We don't want to have to go looking for the threads in an obscure part of the forums, forcing people to do this instead of allowing them to be bumped (we tried to compromise and say put a longer time on bumps etc). The main thing here is we are a lazy bunch of people, and do not want to go looking for auctions. On a personal note, the EMC forums take a ridiculously long time to long for me, I'm talking 20-30 seconds per page, which just means that to get to the auctions part of the forum I have to wait a long time just to get in there to find auctions, and then even longer to look through all of the spammy auctions for very few items which aren't worth it. I brought up in one of my later posts that bigger auctions that people want to shift large quantity of items are going to get drowned out in the sea of auctions for stacks of items. There are ways to implement these rules and implement other things *cough* separate active threads bar for auctions *cough* that would work out perfectly fine, but so far we've just been told "no". Not trying to disagree with you here that it is easy to go to the auctions section, but people don't want to, and some people don't actually know that it exists. We just don't like these new rules, as, like I said, when all of these rules are working together they make auctions not worth it. Also feel free to PM me about this, I'll discuss it with you if you want to continue this discussion =)
Just, personally, don't see why you'd take a system that has worked perfectly well for almost 7 years, screw it around, then when people complain just say "you'll see eventually maybe sometime"
The novelty will wear off once people realize it's dumb; when the shiny chrome paint wears off, folks will get bored with it. I've had my own fun with the rules already. Did it. Forget it. #First. Even with the spam, the subforum has 3 pages of active auctions. Most of them are being bombarded by a handful of players. I'm sure it'll continue for the next week or so. I for one am wiping the dust off the actual forums page for all my browsing needs.
Isnt that how status updates work? Newest goes on top? My point to the question was that in an earlier post it was mentioned that advertising auctions ingame was creating spam for players who cant/dont use the forums. Status updates require you to be on the forums already to see them.
