  1. Basically, I have some friends which like changing names quite often, so I always get confused who is who. This would also help with people I know with long names, to convert to a shorter version...

My idea is for people to /nick players (on a private/client side way) so they know who is who.

    Examples I would use:
    /nick Merrhyandbright --> Rhythmically
    /nick dufthehalls --> Dufne
    /nick slvrbuildsblocks --> Slvr
/nick luckygreenbird --> BadBird jkjk lucky I would nick you to "FavoriteGreenBirb"

This would have a limit per user:

    Quartz: 1 /nick s
    Iron: 5 /nick s
    Gold: 8 /nick s
    Diamond: 12 /nick s

    Conditions:
    • You cannot /nick with /colors
      • Rank Color would be maintained in the /nick
    • Chat filter would still apply
    • You can only /nick /friends
    • You can't /nick SS+
    • You can't /nick anyone to a banned player name
    • You cannot /nick someone to another active user name unless that other user is also in your friends list
      • Possible PS to block people in /friends from using your username as a possible nick for other people
Edits and suggestion from other players:
A method for the system to notify you if there was a namechange from a nicked friend, which would prompt the question: Would you like to keep the /nick on the user, or use his new name.

  7. SORRY TO BE THAT GUY, BUT...
    -1
    Reasons:
    • /p MerRhyandBright gives you all old usernames instantly!
    • If someone changes their username, they want that to be their new username, and allowing other players to keep their old username is just getting around that... What if they don't want to be referred as their old username anymore? Imagine using a nick and now EmperorMelon is now ArchDukeMelon. They might not want that. This is somewhat invasive. I don't want to be called my old username from three years ago. If you want to see that old username for comfort... Sorry. You have to accept their choice.
    • This feature is something big, and I do feel that hypothetically if it's ingame it shouldn't be a supporter perk. The regular players have as big a need as the supporters, and disincluding regular members... I can see the regular members having less nicks, but they shouldn't be disincluded. EDIT: Tuqueque added quartz, so this no longer applies. But 0-1 nicks? How does a range work? :p
    • There's not really a need for this. If someone is changing their username constantly then you just have to get used to it, this isn't something everyone's doing. Everyone changes their username every so and so... And you learn new usernames rather quickly.
    • Also, if you're only nicking people on your friend list then you know them well enough to the point where you KNOW YOUR OWN USERNAME. Also, this does require friending them, which sets limits because not everyone is going to friend me so I could nick them. A better way to do that would be if people could nick themselves for all to see, but then they should just change their username. So meh.
    Still love you Tuqueque. :)

  8. I did think of this while writting my suggestion. Well first I was going to add a method for the system to notify you if there was a namechange, which would prompt the question: Would you like to keep the /nick on the user, or use his new name. (I didn't add it because I just assumed people would /p) Remember that this refers to only ingame chat, not forums, not "tab"(at least, I don't think it would). Well, and if someone is bothered/ashamed by an old username, well... it is still on /p, and I am sure /friends would understand that and not bully him with it. But... if a situation arises, I'm sure staff can step in.

Wanted to include the Quartz supporters aswell =P as I did think the same as you. 0-1 nicks is for, if devs want it to be supporter only or not =P

The /friends friend limit is quite high, so I myself wouldn't be able to keep up with so many... Maybe it is different for you.

    I also love you <3 :)
Lol, why did you think having different opinions would change the fact that you are my smp8 wife?

  9. Yeah, but they would've kept that username in the first place is they wanted to be called it. ;)
    Okie. :)
I wasn't aware of that. Cool!

  12. I'd also rather not have this be a feature.
I agree with q1zx's reason. An additional point: you might think this is personal, but it won't stay personal. If people share screenshots from chat, which often happens, you might see used nicks.

  13. True, but also:

Kinda stole's krysyy's quote to answer this because it is mostly relevant. If you don't want others to see a certain nick, then don't post it.

I personally wouldn't really use it, maybe change Tom's name to Tom, but I can defenetly see this being usefull for people that can't keep up with name changes, or just have friends that you don't remember with their minecraft name.

  16. I'm not sure, but after reading the thread I also think it doesn't have to be all that intrusive either. For example: this could be something which gets added to a players name. Just like the round ball in front of a name gets added in front of your friends names, but only if you're a supporter. I could also imagine this feature to tie into the currently available /note system.

Which is my first comment: /note set tuqueque this is not Dufne (nor Rhy), and I should check out his new suggestion.

So this system more or less already exists... The main difference would be the placement of the resulting text field, I could imagine that behind someone's name (comparable to the blue ball in front of someone's name).

    Anyway +1

  17. This would be a -1 for me (mostly q1zx's reasoning), but this suggestion is worked out really well. Maybe if the person you are nicknaming gets a message and has to approve, it could work :)

The point is that the player themself can't control what their friends are nicknaming them to. If say person A names person B to something, and person A posts a funny chat moment picture where person B is called like that, person C and D etc. can see that nickname too.

Edit: I think shell's idea of being additional is also quite nice

  18. I agree with this. For example, one of my friends changed their name because they don't want people calling them that. I don't really like how some people call me K9 either. But... I do feel like this is a good suggestion. So -/+0

I think people could abuse this and pretend to be staff. EDIT: I thought it was nick name, whoops.

Edit: I like the /p name. Easier to type and gives you more info.

  20. This is my tempory solution. Just that well, there is no "/note list"
I also like your your idea of a in-chat identifier that a player is nicked

Well, in IRL your friends use nicknames which identify their friends. I don't see why these should be kept secret, since they are part of their identity somehow. If that nickname bothers you, then in IRL you would tell your friends and they would stop. I would expect the same behavior here.

Remember that anyone can basically call anything anybody in chat. So if people already use these nicknames, in chat then these new screenshots won't really add to their existance. And... The nicknames would remain private if the /nick-er does not share them.

Also, if I rename MerRhyAndBright to "rabbit" then I would be the only one who knew who was behind the nicked name. So if a screenshot was shared, then only people present would find out that my nickname for Rhy is rabbit. I would never call Rhy "rabbit", but it is an easy identifier.

I do like your suggestion of approving nicknames. Maybe add a PS setting for letting your friends nick you with the options: Always & Approval needed
