In my personal opinion: if Aikar is smart he'll stay away from that money drain :D

I've been following plenty of the recent developments around Bitcoins and yeah, peculiar how it always seems to associate itself with the less moral aspects of the Internet. The last ransomware rampages? Payable in Bitcoins only. And even the whole bitcoin environment itself isn't without dark shadows. A few days back it turned out that the police had managed to gain access to a part of the Dark Web (long story), a forum previously ran in the Ukraine especially.

As a result of that they managed to obtain dozens of data on drug dealers (and worse) and in total seized around 4 million worth in Bitcoins. Which... And this is the troublesome part: immediately affected the overall value of the Bitcoin as well (it dropped).

In my opinion you're better off investing on the stock market, it'll be a lot less dangerous.

Now... so far for my personal bias.

On a technical / business level I think Aikar wouldn't be doing anyone a favor with this. Other than the bitcoin brokers. When I want my hands on bitcoins (well, coins? one bitcoin currently values E 2354, or $ 2745) then you'll notice that it'll cost you transaction costs. One broker I just checked charges 0,25% per transaction.

In direct comparison: I can open a paypal account for free, put my Euro's onto that and purchase something for US dollars. It only follows the current exchange rates, one on one. No extra charge. And I'll bet Aikar ("Starlis") can easily withdraw it from their account as well without extra charge.

So wouldn't you agree that it's much more fair not to try and put something in the spotlight which would only cost money to actually use?

Not to mention that, once again, plenty of bitcoins aren't exactly obtained in a legal manner. I seriously don't think you'd want you associate yourself with that reputation in any way.

Somewhat due to what Shel said.

Dogecoin on the other hand

Although don't get me wrong, I agree with you on that cryptocurrency is the future.

  5. Well, that nicely wraps up the debate I guess. Although bitcoin or the like may be the future of money that future is not now. Best let the dust settle. See you in a decade.

    Thanks for the input

  6. The killer is that Aikar would not be able to pay his bills in bitcoin. He would have to sell them first? I doubt he would want to go through that hassle. Ain't gonna happen. When you can start paying you heating bill with bitcoin, maybe.

  7. Wouldn't the first thing Aikar would do with a bitcoin payment, be to just convert it to USD? Unless Hivelocity takes bitcoin payment, I see no advantage - other than to be trendy. Which is not a practical advantage.

  8. Never ever going to happen. I don't have illegal things to buy, so bitcoin is absolutely pointless. It's not a currency you exchange and is extremely volatile.
