I discovered a texture pack (Lethos Faithfull)

  1. Hi gang!

I've been playing vanilla for most of my Minecraft life, but eventually started looking at alternatives. Also because ever since 1.11 happened I saw myself somewhat forced to use Optifine in order to improve on my fps rates (game speed). It's something I can recommend everyone to try by the way, you don't need any modloaders or such: just run the Optfine jarfile and it'll create a new profile for you which you can then use. You'd have vanilla Minecraft but with better graphics (and more options to tune).

But the thing with Optifine is that it also provides a lot of interesting things for texture or resource packs. Like, for example, randomized block textures. My only problem: I tried plenty of resource packs and eventually dropped all of 'm as well. Eventually I ended up confused, and liking the vanilla models best. I briefly tried Faithfull but for some reason that never clicked with me.

And today I suddenly found Lithos Faithful, and that was an instant hit with me. I like this, a lot!

But instead of merely showing you screenshots I figured I'd try to show you guys the differences instead. And the best part: this resourcepack is pretty light on your computer as well.

Aya & me on vanilla (Aya's client).

    And on Lethos (my client).

As you can see it tries to stay pretty close to vanilla while still showing better looking graphics.

    My storage on vanilla.

And on Lethos, even the arm changed! :D

And of course the sunset really takes the biscuit (though I'm sure this happens with other resource packs too):

    Lethos.

    Vanilla.

Now, to prevent too much stuff from loading in at once here are a few other examples which I think you might like to see:

Lethos, I really like the 'marble' look on the repeater and the redstone specks on the ground!

    Vanilla.

Vanilla, this is my squid 'basin'.

And on Lethos, you can clearly see through the water!

Lethos, I also really like the way greenery looks with this pack!

    And vanilla.

Lethos, chickens (and other mobs) come in different variants!

    And vanilla.

A fair warning though... If you like what you're seeing and you are going to try it out then be extra careful in the wilderness! I spotted different types of creepers with this pack! So they're not always green. I haven't experimented thoroughly but it almost seems as if creepers look different based on their environment. So in the woods a creeper is green. But in a desert it could be gray'ish, making it even harder to spot it!

But yeah, figured I'd share this tidbit, I think it's pretty cool how close this looks to vanilla while still enhancing the graphics a bit!
  2. It looks nice but my problem with most of these texture packs is that it always seems like they make the game look worse. My guess is that the blockiness of Minecraft and lack of good models is the problem. The low resolution textures hide this problem by making it feel like a consistent style. Speaking of which:

  3. Omg Shel, what have you drawn me into! A bunch of peeps that have overdosed with ale......

  4. Ayups, this also struck me as odd. I can tell you one thing: fighting zombies and Momentus will never be the same again. Some of the noise those make can be really disturbing (in a good way of course!).
  5. The texture pack looks very nice, especially with shaders :)
  6. That villager's ready to mingle.

  7. Fine I just downloaded it Optifine. I'll proceed from there should the default texture ever make me sick.

Edit: I didn't notice a difference in performance. *facepalm
  8. I love that illustration!
That's what I often feel like, too. Although some texture packs actually do quite a good job at not making that happen.

  9. This texture pack would be good, but the tools look bad....

  10. Okay, so now that I've hod Optifine a little bit know. I can say I notice a difference in the wild.

  11. I've never used a texture pack before. This one didn't make it too weird but still I think I'll stick with default.

Thanks for introducing me to texture packs... I may try some more out later... They do make great screenshots but I don't want to play without the default textures on.

  12. I've been using Ragecraft recently. It is also a faithful style at 64x64. Of course, for Nether, I like VanillaBDcraft (aka Sphax). I love the way the soul sand just looks like it is screaming.
  13. I like the KoP 1.12 V3 64bit texture pack especially when I have shaders on...

  14. Wow, I'm so getting this right now!

  15. I am TOTALLY getting a Rick vibe from that villager.

    Just... RUN.
