  1. Define scamming.
If negotiating a price, regardless of 'worth' or 'paid for' is scamming.
And if the definition is arbitrary.
We are in for some trouble.
  2. 99% of the time you can help base your selling price off of the /shop price.

  3. scam
    noun
    1.
a confidence game or other fraudulent scheme, especially for making aquick profit; swindle.

verb (used with object), scammed, scamming.
    2.
to cheat or defraud with a scam.

  4. So, is getting a deal, negotiating a price... that is agreed upon by two players have any fraudulent intent?
  5. Personally I disagree with this "new player promo rule". Say when the EMC Cake was first released, would it have been a scam to offer 2,000r to a new player? And if that would be considered illegal, then where is the cutoff point? Who is to decided the minimum you must offer a new player? This tactic is used not only with new players, but really with everyone. Ever been to a drop party with rare items? Take the PPP for example. People were being offered 100k for their Eternia Books, which a lot of people took, myself included. Now these books are worth upwards of 400k. How is that any different then giving a new player 2k for a cake that will be worth 20k?
It's the seller's responsibility to be aware of the price they are selling their item for. It would be a scam if I was MAKING the player sell me the item for 2k. Instead, he or she has the option to say no, or ask for more money. If they agree to the price of 2k, then that is on them.
Hoarding promos should be up to the players to decide. Same goes for hoarding any other item.

  6. The point people were making is that new players don't know how much the promos go for. So cheating them into trading it for cheap amounts of rupees would be considered scamming.

  9. This is constructive. They are expressing their opinions and voting based on those opinions. They don't have to repeat what others have said over and over to prove a point that has already been proven multiple times on this thread. They are simply agreeing with what others have said.

  10. If you think about it - it wouldn't be fair to just stop people from obtaining the items without having a totally, even-leveled marxism based system. If you enforce players from not being able to obtain items, then we need to have 'all items' in game to be removed to make it fair (which i'm certain we're not going to do)... because I know for a fact that some people totally monopolize off of new player's by obtaining their promotionals for cheap ... then turning around and re-selling them for profit when the promotional period ends.

Though I feel like these individuals doing it, are in the wrong for doings so... I don't feel everyone else should be made to sell or not sell certain items because a few abused the system. It's moreover, the individuals need to see that you shouldn't bug newbies about things that he/she is not yet aware of... and to give him/her a chance to play; however, other player's may not be as greedy and don't try to trick newbies, so he/she shouldn't be forced from not being able to ask a new person or old person for promotionals if he/she knows about it and is willing to sell.

*In short... it's allowed to ask to buy/sell ... but don't take advantage of players*

  11. In All honesty i always tell new members what the real value of the promos/items are then give them my offer. But i Also recommend them to auction the items to get more value out of their promos. I am one of the rare people to encourage new members to use the forums to make good rupees.

  12. what bro said... if I had explained it would be this:

people should be able to do what they please with their items. that is the bottom line.

however, many people have already stated that in this thread, so there's not much of a point in saying it when instead you can just agree.

  13. What players do with their own items we will not interfere with.

The buying from new players for outrageously cheap prices (scamming essentially) is already against the rules and I have warned many people about it.

  14. While it is against my moral compass to offer a very low rupee amount for anything, (promos, blocks, etc...)
It is impossible to show fraudulent intent, solely based on the amount paid.
Look at the pawnstars show on TV. They know the worth, and people sell their items for less than what they are 'worth'? Is this scamming as well, or negotiating?

<<unless the established players are telling the new player specifically that the promos are 'worthless', or lying to them>> I would think this situation would fall under a 'scam' as players are being mislead.

Current 'promo' prices are one rupee amount, and in 6 months, becomes another amount.
Did I scam someone when I purchased a haunted head for 8,000 rupees when it first came out?
I made an offer, other player negotiated, we set a price we both thought was fair, I paid, they gave me the item.
Did I scam someone when they set up their diamond sell chest for 50r each, and I bought them out?
Would it be scamming if a player was trying to sell the 20 diamonds they just mined and I offered 55r each?

I understand the intent that it is 'wrong' to try to rip people off, however this is part of the economy.
Offering a low price, and purposely misleading a player to sell cheap are two different situations.
This is why whenever I buy anything, promos or blocks, I try to advertise and give fair prices.

    However, what I have learned:
When you offer a fair price, other 'players' will STILL go around the SMPs, purchase for as low as possible, then resell to you.

I think that advertising what items are worth, or approximate values helps everyone.

  15. We can't say what a fair price is or whether a buyer understands and agrees with it because both are so highly subjective. Trying to police it that way wouldn't work in my opinion.

Scamming to me is to intentionally lie to or mislead someone in a transaction. As long as I act honestly and honorably, the other party IS making an educated agreement with me.

I would not want to be held responsible to make sure that the other party is happy with the transaction a month later and I think everyone should be held responsible for their own actions anyway. If you are going to make a deal it is your responsibility to educate yourself before hand and not mine, although I (and most people) will try.

  16. The idea we use when deciding to punish or not is if the player was singling out new players specifically. Private messages for example to someone that just joined telling them to claim the promo and sell it to them for extra cash.

  18. With all these disagreements, I do not think this will EVER be a thing. Let us make this thread a shout out to all of you active/experienced/well-known players, do not take advantage over players lacking knowledge on the promotions, and give them a good deal for their item. I am not saying you should pay the players several thousands, but there is no idea in being so happy for items that you end up ripping a newbie off.

This is what happened for me:
Gained some rupees from doing normal boring stuff
Bought some promos from new players
    Waited awhile
Sold said promos to the rich players for more rupees

See, everyone wins cuz the new players get my money and I get the rich players money :D
(plus if it wasn't for older players buying promos from new players it would have taken me a whole lot longer to get any large amount of rupees because a couple weeks after I started out on EMC the /promo holiday came out and I sold my rudolph to WookieCry for 25k and I felt so rich so I started buying rich people stuff like diamonds which rose in value by 20r each from when I started so yup) :D
  20. I've been awful busy making RL transactions. I'm still managing to refresh the Forums page pretty regularly.
