  1. Ok. So in the comments I read that part of this is because younger kids are stealing money from their parents to get supporter, extra permissions, what ever you call it. Unless the server owners are saying "Hey kid, I'll give you supporter if you pay me using your parents credit card", I dont think its their fault. What if a kid takes his parents credit card to activate a minecraft realms server... Then would they have to update their EULA and remove purchasing Realms? I didnt read anything other than skimming through the comments, so I may be slightly off on my statements. Also, I dont see how the parents can blame mojang for what their kid did. Their kid could have done the same thing to any online website where you can buy stuff...

As previously mentioned I didnt read any official posts, just what I saw here. Thanks for listening to my opinion.

  2. They said that if Banks of parents credit cards do chargebacks then servers would be harmed and the parents might sue Mojang or something.
  3. actually, yeah.
    IF that's the reason, well
    A. that's a pretty bull excuse tbh
    B. in five seconds they could be dealing with problems that are they're fault this time, not the server's fault

  4. But what if mojang stated that all servers are considered third party... Wouldnt that make it impossible to sue mojang?
Like on xbox, if you buy third party equipment and it is faulty or ruins your xbox, you cant complain to Xbox/Microsoft.
  5. They're doing it because they don't want the complaints, whether or not they'd be in trouble.
  6. I wouldn't put it past some of those sites to encourage kids to use the parents credit cards behind parents back. No doubt these server owners will empty accounts the instance a payment is made so when the parents try to do a chargeback there is nothing to get back. Where as if a kid misuses credit card to get realms and the parent does a charge back then they will get their funds back. Also £8 is a hell of difference to £100+.
  7. The way I see it personally is that it's just opening the door for Mojang to legally (and let the community know beforehand) intervene on the big servers that take $500-1000 payments due to this credit card misuse - example: A certain server who is - rightfully - sueing young, rich customers who issued chargebacks for their products).

Compared to what a lot of servers offer nowadays EMC's supporter deals are very cheap - we don't use these "pay to win" models so I highly doubt we would be targeted.

  8. I remember reading a post somewhere about someone on "WC" doing exactly that. He made LARGE "donations" to the server and everyone on the server was in awe and he was getting personal messages from the owner himself. Turned out it was a scam and he just charged back all the money he got. I know that young players parents could be irate, but I think in the right circumstance, so can a server. I agree with you though, EMC doesn't use the pay to win model as there is no winning. PvP is nearly nonexistent. Mob arena is often won by non-supporters. EMC in general is very level, donating really is more of a choice to support the server with some added benefits and recognition.

  9. Saw this when logging into the game earlier, Went to Twitter to check it out. (Read from bottom to top since that's how Twitter does -_-)

People are STILL flipping their $#*% saying "THIS IS JOBS FOR SOME PEOPLE!" "THIS IS HOW PEOPLE MAKE MONEY!" "YOU ONLY WANT PEOPLE TO GET REALMS!" and Notch is trying to explain everything. There DO seem to be several people who are competent enough to read and understand what he's saying mixed in though.
  10. So cosmetics stuff can be charged for, great. This only leaves TnT and I think flying for diamond supporters in utopia town as being an issue with us. Every other perk uses more resources which can be charged for.

Still doesn't stop those servers getting kids to pay $$$ for pets (I assume pets just follow and do nothing else).

  11. Well, it sounds like anything that uses their engine that's not cosmetic (including currency/servers that charge for plots/etc.) are going out the window as well. In some comments Notch has said in places, he basically said if player A donates 100.00 and player B donates 0.00, they should have every single thing the same in the game itself.

So, if it goes the way Notch wants, basically pets and visuals are the only thing that servers WILL be allowed to give. Still waiting on an official statement, but it sounds like he has a big word in it. Using the term "more resources" unfortunately isn't going to likely cut it with how strict they seem to be going, since it's still using their server software to sell those "resources".

He even is cutting down on SOME cosmetic stuff. Like, it mentioned that they don't want places to offer 'capes' as a prize (bye bye optifine capes, probably from here on) since they want to reserve them for probably Minecon stuff.

  12. Then on the other side, Hypixel is claiming Mojang has personally told them twice they are ok.... So, if Hypixel is OK, EMC is def ok.

  13. Again, all speculation for sure, but I've heard the reason they're okay is due to changes they're making to their rank systems (aka removing all the stuff that goes beyond cosmetic). Luckily for Hypixel being popular, he gets a heads up on things, but the word is, they'll be okay since they will comply and make the required changes.

He's got a name as well to back him up, so he'll be fine regardless in this whole mess.

When he mentioned he'd be "okay", it was more to let people know Hypixel wouldn't shut down, not that their current rank/perk system was acceptable for the future.

  14. that wording doesn't sound like "we are changing to comply"

  15. And in that same post, he shows what he was referring to. Everyone was coming to him with: "They're shutting Hypixel down."

He was simply letting them know they wouldn't be doing so. :)

Even though you think you're safe, and very well may be (who really knows yet) it would perhaps to be a good thing to start a dialog for the community on options IF the current perks would have to go and be replaced with cosmetic items. It's about the community after all.

  16. His posts don't make it much better. They have changed the EUla for 1.7.10 and they are being very restrictive on features. This all depends on the "new options for server income" thing. Maybe an official api for purchasing ranks with more features?
  17. So...that was a lot of reading but i think its saying that iron, gold, diamond supporters lose the colored name?
  18. Actually, IF what Notch is hinting at is accurate, the colored names would be one of the perks that are 100% safe.
MrUnknownian, PenguinDJ and 607 like this.
  19. So...will supporters lose their 2nd,3rd and,4th res?
  20. Nothing has been confirmed yet from Mojang, so we can't say what will or won't happen until that does. Though I'd ASSUME, when/if it does go through, they likely wouldn't retro-activate the rules as that would be a headache to manage and go after.

Though, worst comes to worst, the perks don't really have to go "away". They'd just become more available in other ways that didn't involve donating, such as earning them in game somehow. It would be a big change, but nothing EMC couldn't figure out.
