  1. So YouTube buys twitch. Could be good... Or could be bad... #RIPTWITCH.
  2. Does that mean by extension that Google now runs Twitch?
  3. Yes. Haven't you noticed that you need a G+ account to log in to Twitch now??/joking.

  8. Technically it should be Google doing the buying, as YouTube is owned by Google.

  9. Well, it doesn't really matter vice versa. :p
  10. Who is ready for you have to have google plus for a twitch account?
  11. Nice, lets see how bad Google can muck up this now too. Used to love YouTube, have 10k subs, and 2.4 million views. But then Google just completely ruined YouTube over the last year or two, and I just can't stand to even be on that site anymore.

They will start small to make it look like they are doing good, such as increasing bandwidth to make streams load faster and such. Then will come some account merge crap, which will require you to have a Gmail, YouTube account, and Google+ account on top of your Twitch account just to stream. They will remove almost all profile customization, because people shouldn't be able to display personality. Add limits to how long you can stream on a 'basic' account, you have to get some seemingly impossible and invisible rank up to have full control over what you can do (sponsorship).

Well RIP Twitch. Was just about to get back into streaming too.

  12. Hmmm, very interesting. I'm not keen on the idea right now, but time will tell I guess.

  13. Google enjoys buying things. Given the resources of Google/YouTube, this could become really cool. Twitch had some kind of special deal with minecraft so I wonder what will happen with that. I don't think it is that much to worry about though although it will be interesting to see what happens.

  14. Same applies with FB and Oculus, except we all know what will happen with that lol.

  15. That doesn't count. Fb bought a company that has nothing to do with them. Google bought a company that can easily be integrated with their services.

  16. FB specifically bought Oculus because they claimed that social media will be in VR in the future. And the whole reason people are (or are going to be) upset is because no one wants Google to just cannibalize Twitch. If they do, they will just produce an inferior product. If they were to just buy it and barely tweak it to make it more profitable and use their broad reach to make it even larger, then that would be fantastic. But that won't happen. It will be another attempt at getting people to actually use G+.

  17. Check out this article.
Twitch has a massive user base and is very well established. Google may do stupid things, but cannibalizing Twitch would be even out of their range. The article notes that Twitch has been trying to find an "investor" for a while now and wouldn't have sold if they didn't really like the deal. They turned down Microsoft so they could have turned down Google if they had wanted to destroy them.
Why won't they? It makes sense on almost every level to do what you said. As I mentioned before, Google shouldn't be classified as stupid.
Why is it bad to have users use Google+? I understand that you shouldn't need a completely different account to use something, but Google owns them and is trying to push it's services and create a unified, social login structure. I don't see a reason to hate the service so passionately as some people seem to do.
