I believe you mean 'European Style', not 'American Style' If they do take Crimea, the UK, US and other countries won't stand for it. There'd probably be like, a mini war, like the UK had with Argentina over the Falklands in the 80's. It probably wouldn't last very long, because Russia isn't too rich, especially compared to the likes of the US and UK.
No, I mean American Style, the political and economic style that became popular in Europe after the USA essentially "bailed out" Europe after WW2 with the Marshall Plan. And besides, Russia has pretty much already taken Crimea, and Crimea WANTS to become part of Russia due to their high percent of ethnic Russians and Pro-Russian supporters. The west will only really get into Ukraine should Russia go for a full take over of Ukraine, which isn't clear yet.
*cracks fingers" Remember my thread about how the North and South Korea almost went to war? Yeah, here we go again, just with two different countries. Besides Russia invading, what else has happened? This is really dangerous it could lead to WW III. this is exactly what happend in the 1930's when germany 're-united regions' western europe let it slide then. there are so many paralells with then. if the US and europe dont react to it properly that little region can drag all of the world into WWIII not this month but maybe within a year or 2 just like WWII. a wise man once said: those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it. i dont think it will lead to WW III but like history proves it only takes a little thing to drag the world into a world war
I've made an interesting observation. Back when North Korea and South Korea were having a little cat fight, you guys were all going on about how it would be World War 3 and everyone would die etc. But now that we're talking about a country that is actually armed with atomic weapons and has the potential capability and the mind set to want to take over the rest of the world, and most of you are saying that there probably won't be a World War 3. What is this, racism, or fear?
Technically, since russia is harboring the ukranian president, it can be implied that help was requested by him. Also, at least from my understanding of the situation, there is not a distinct organized revolutionary/opposition force, and president Putin has only been granted permission to deploy troops, NOT to order the active engagement of violent citizens. Furthermore, the mere presence of russia is sufficent to deter attacks on russian troops/pro ukranian government forces. In summary, it would be hard for russia to attack and take control of the ukraine without using substantial forces and alerting other countries. it would be hard to use small, covert forces for the same reason that it has been over a decade of fighting terrorist groups in the middle east: how can you fight an enemy you can't identify clearly? anyways, there is a line at some point, but i dont think russia has crossed it.
I think we've learnt enough from history to know that a World War 3 means guaranteed destruction on a large scale. There is no country willing to risk that. What's the point of going to war knowing everything will be destroyed?
russia is poking ukrain to make the first move, so they can say: he they did start. and the oppositian force is the ukrainian army which is under control of the government.
These are only claims, there is no solid evidence of such a thing happening. The likelihood is high though. From the beginning, the riots in Ukraine had Russia written all over them. there is the potential that this is the next stage in Russia's plan to gain more influence(not specifically land) on it's surrounding countries. To those of you who think Russia isn't doing anything major. You do have to understand that the President is basically a dictator, and was a spy during the cold war. I'm not going to make any claims here, but what is happening does appear a bit suspicious.
Neither of these have the potentinal to really become WW3. What would have happened in Korea would most likely be the Second Korean War, not WW3. I think people said WW3 for the Korea trouble because America was involved, as SK is the USAs ally. Ukraine isn't really allied with anyone right now, so the west doesn't have an urge to act as much as they would with SK.
my ukranian friend said it was the opposite, the ukrainian government (and the revolt against it thats been happening for weeks) was to return to soviet policy where atleast children werent starving. my friend said locals replaced their town government flag with the red white and blue russian and welcomed the peacekeeping forces of russia with open arms. i sense a diplomatic ploy by western media to paint russia as the bad guy in all this
There's obviously something not right that's going on over there. I'm not sure anyone knows exactly what.
Crimea is largely welcoming the Russians, the rest of Ukraine is lukewarm at best and irate at worst.
Thanks I was about to contact a mod to clean up the thread. Even though it is placed in Misc doesn't mean go off-topic

Sorry to bring this up, but the president the one that was "kicked out" said Russian GRU could go into Crimea and protect Russia's interest. Though, I do not agree with the "invasion" of Ukraine, it was in no was an invasion. No one was hurt in the official stages, on when it was annexed is when violence erupted. Also the Crimean parliament leader raised the Russian flag of the Crimea parliament and asked Russian troops to move in. Again, I don't support this. Just giving the facts before people assume stuff. Also if does go down to war, the Russian army is much more superior, so I pray that it does not.
