I have often heard something like "gotta catch them all" but is that really doable? I mean, when I hear people are already having trouble completing the pokedex, "catching them all" is even harder, right?

You cannot catch all Pokemon, but you can obtain them all; some Pokemon are only obtainable through events where you receive a Pokemon from a delivery person, and are therefore not caught. To obtain all Pokemon without trading, you need to own every single one of the main games from Ruby and Sapphire onwards, and participate in all Nintendo Events. With trading, you need only have Pokemon X or Y, and the time and effort to catch all Pokemon in the game, and then train up elusive Pokemon for trading to fill in the remaining gaps in your Pokedex. I will add everyone now ^_^
