There are theories that early bacteria could have been formed in extreme conditions, a geyser for example. The earliest bacteria would have used RNA, DNA would have come later. And to answer other posts: Nothing is a logical impossibility. Many physicists debate over if time actually exists. Some say it exists and have many different theories as to how it exist, while others say it doesn't and have theories as to why it can't.
I don't see how time can't exist... Also, I feel like referring everyone to a comic called Punk Rock Jesus Hylian told me about a few months back. Basically, the comic allows science and religion to co-exist...in a very, very strange way.
Many physicists say it is more likely time doesn't exist, or at least not how we think of it. Punk Rock Jesus is amazing! It a six part mini series written by an atheist, but it is more open than "Atheism is the only right answer". The story is about the cloning of Jesus from the Shroud of Turin. It deals mainly with science, religion, and this "reality" tv brainwashed society we live in. The ending was quite tasteful and let open the possibility of a god.
Going back in time is impossible. Going forward in time is theoretically possible, but would be almost impossible to actually do.
Well, if you are wrong (not saying you are, just if) then you did waste a lot of time on something that wasn't real. Time that could've been spent better doing other things. This is one of the reasons Pascal's Wager does not appeal to me in the least. Oh, no doubt about it. The freedom of speech, expression and religion is inviolable to me. Nothing trumps those, not even the truth, haha. I'm of the opinion that people should be able to believe and say whatever they want, even in the face of colossal evidence to the contrary. Yes, obviously I disagree. I have a very hard time taking a book seriously that has so many blatant errors and contradictions in it. I'd post examples, but I don't know where to start, to be honest. One of my issues with religion is that even if I were to concede that a god exists, how do you go from there to Christianity or Islam or Hinduism, or what have you? There's no logical connection between "god exists" and "Christianity is the one true religion, and those thousands of other religions that exist or have existed all had it wrong."

It depends what physicist you ask. There are very good theories on both sides of the aisle. I think that some form of time exists, but it is not at all how the majority of people think of it. I rather like the theory that the present is a combination of the past and the future.
I feel like writing some sort of story based on that now... You should write to image for a comic based on that. I'd buy it :3
I am stealing that idea. Also, you should go read Comeback, it is about time travel. It is pretty trippy. The theory is probably not true. There have been experiments on the quantum level that give it some credibility, but it has not been taken further than that.
Anything I've ever been involved with that dealt with religion was a very pleasant experience. It was hanging out with like minded people having a good time. I wouldn't consider any of that time "wasted" to be honest.
I was getting sad that nobody had quoted me yet haha. To be honest, I don't really think that the majority would be a waste. My church does spend a lot of time focusing on the bible, but that isn't the only thing we cover. We spend a lot of time going over stuff not even related to religion. A lot of it being service. When I was younger we spent a lot of time as a scout troop, and though it was lame, I did learn some cool things. I've always found the bible interesting, even if it weren't true, but that may just be me haha. We also spend a good amount of time talking about morale's. And even though what "good morale's" are may differ between you and I, I'm happy with my life how it is. My church is really known for what we DON'T do. Like drink alcohol, smoke, etc. We're known widely for that, and "multiple wives" even though that's false. (I'm LDS / Mormon) The first amendment is pretty awesome, but I think it can be too... loose sometimes (Specifically referencing the Westboro Baptist Church) Well a lot of the errors came from translation after translation after translation after translation. Also, a lot of the contradictions can be somewhat justified. I'm not the person to do that for all of them haha, but I read this one response to contradictions in a book before. "The bible may be full of 'contradictions' but it's like telling a child not to mess with fire and then asking a teenager to start the campfire. It depends on the circumstances for what happens" My church had polygamy. It's main purpose was because there were more female members then male, and they needed financial support. I do agree with that. The only way you can say that is if you base it off of personal revelation. I can say "I know my church is true because I had this experience" but it wouldn't have nearly the same affect for you. I feel lucky because my Church believes that, if for example, you were to die without accepting our gospel, you'd be given the chance to in the next life. You'd have the same personality and may not accept it, but family or friends with different views are still given the same opportunity. I know that may sound a little weird, but it's comforting to know for me.
Oh I forgot haha. One of THE biggest ones we're known for is that we don't drink caffeine (coffee) It really surprises people haha.
Of course, but that sounds like the argument some people use for getting a dog. "It forces me to go for walks." Nothing really stops you from going for walks anyway. If that's the only reason a person uses to get a dog, I think they're pretty silly. You can hang out with like minded people and have a good time without religion as well. I would even argue that without all the religious ceremony getting in the way, you can have a better time without religion. Like when my wife and I visit our board game arranging friend, who invites a few people over and we all play board games together. I'm not trying to say you're wrong, just that I see things differently. My experience those few times I've had to go to church is mostly that you either sit still being quiet while listening to uninspiring babble, or you stand up and chant some random psalm or whatever have you. Neither lends themselves to having a good time, in my opinion.
I argued this point in my reply to ICC already, so I'll just point you there, just in case you missed it. Yeah, I agree. However, I don't think the solution is to limit the first amendment, but rather make illegal the few unacceptable things that the WBC does, such as harassing people at funerals. It's very important, however wrong and obnoxious they are, that they get to express themselves just like everyone else. The whole point of these freedoms is to protect things that are objectionable. If freedom of speech only protects things that people don't mind being exposed to, there's no need for it, as nobody would be objecting anyway... I see nothing wrong with polygamy. My opinion is that consenting adults should be able to do whatever they want as long as they don't hurt anyone else in the process. If consenting adults want to enter a three (or more) person contract of marriage, who is to (justifiably) say they shouldn't be allowed to?
I love my dog more than I ever intended to. I know this sounds silly, but she's guided me through some tough times in my depression. I would have suicided 4 years ago if I didn't think of my dog. Now, I guess you could say things are much better. The urges to put a knife in my chest only popup every couple of months, and my crying outbursts are less frequent. Religion actually made my depression worse, tbh. I only stuck with it for 6 months. It's thanks to a very special person (who was my valentine this year...which was the single most embarressing moment of my life) who came into my life by accident, a special dog, and me pointing out things i'm lucky to have that allowed me to put my suicidal thoughts at rest and guide me through one of the toughest times of my life. Believing in a God is too much work for me. If I ever do go ahead with suiciding, (which will never happen, but k.) i'll go straight to hell for a decision I chose to make. If God controlled everything, I wouldn't have done something he saw as wrong.
