I have a question about the bonemeal:
What happens when you click on the ground with it? Will it grow flowers and grass immediately? Or will you have to click twice or thrice on the same dirt/grass block?

No, that has not been nerfed.

Mojang is making a way to install mods easily, just as you wanted, and they are going to try to make (oh, what's it called...that better performance mod) directly into minecraft, together called the modding API.
They announced it in 2010 already, but I still have hope it will come.
Especially with the new texture pack options.
That was a big step for the modding API.

I think it will come around half april or so, but most people think i'm to much an optimist about that
