Has EMC lost its luster?

  1. ik and im one of those ppl ok perma ban hackers just what is driving me crazy is reports for like capsing 2-4 words... and i wish they are in the same sentence... cussing lets say i was mad and i said **** by mistake dont we all do that mistake when were angry? or have done that mistake? im just saying that i love what the server was and i just dont want it to go down that much.... im not leaving this server until i finally get bored of mc... and ive been playing on this server for 2 years + the 6-9 month break from it...
  2. You're not even a year old yet, fyi :)
  3. :O old? :O im 14 XD...
  4. maybe XD iam XD it slips out? :p
  5. You can't make "mistakes" when typing. You don't accidentally let **** "slip out" on a keyboard. You know caps is a rule so don't do it. It's that simple.
  6. Joshmcf, what about your old club thing, i paid for lifetime membership for it and after about 2 month you've closed it. Are you going to pay back the money you owe me?
  7. Can someone comment on this? Admin? Mod? Joe Schmoe?
  8. It lost a little bit. I was for one, bored. My friend, MinerPro47 quit recently, and I'm kinda bored. I came back, and I enjoy it much more. I think it's boring for a bit, but when you come back, its really fun.
I'm just throwing my opinion out there.
  9. The situation is a case by case basis. Every player on EMC is an individual, and is treated as such. Every report that we receive is investigated thoroughly and assessed. If a player has a history of "being angry," "making mistakes," or "being rude" than he or she is treated accordingly. On the first time, it's a mistake. Second time, maybe. When a player discusses vulgar topics in the town chat continually - they will get banned. Same for a player who continually breaks any rule. Even if it is a caps rule.

  10. That's the goal. We have some amazing people in this community!

  11. Don't care about these events or whatever. I'm only here because of the people(friends). If they leave... So will I

  12. I think it lost it's true luster for me a while ago. I liked it when it first started, and a few months after that, the best. Now I'm not saying now is bad, but I'm not saying the current atmosphere really is enjoyable for me. At first, it was unique, with the residences and the shop system, along with a server that had no pvp whatsoever (I really, really suck at PvP :p), but after awhile, it just got a little old and big for me. If you wanted to experience the true Empire lust, you would have to go, in my opinion, back to where we started. Bring some old ideas back to life. Examples would be, the Empire Pool. There were a few weekly drop parties there, where one person would go to the highest diving board and drop all sorts of goodies! Another one would be (I understand this wouldn't be brought back for a LONG time) the Empire Arenas. Good old fashioned mob arenas! Too bad no one really went on them besides groups of friends, including my friends and I.

  13. Mob arena, smp5 - weekly. Or were you thinking something more along the lines of an arena that a player (and friends) can just drop in to anytime they want?

  14. Yes, thats exactly how it was! It wasn't scheduled. It was basically, connect to the Arenas server and pick an arena with friends, then fight to the last man standing against a hoard of normal and special mobs :D
  15. Lets not even go there...
  16. Right. I recall that. That was quite some time ago. We are working on setting up the arena so Senior Staff will not be necessary to run it. Sadly, Aikar is swamped. It's been said multiple times, but he really is. The poor guy gets so tired working on the Dragon Tomb that he can't type.

  17. My answer to the title: no.
  18. I think Aikar needs some helpers.
Surely a few people out of the 50k can help.

  19. Lol... The firewall is setup to block ICC in every way from touching anything technical... We don't want the servers to melt down :p
That post was posted before you even posted... It was not in response to you.

But to answer you. Yes EMC is a business, but EMC is not a "typical" business. It's a very small startup. There is not enough revenue to "hire people", and even then, there's flaws with that.

    1) Code Quality: Alot of EMC code has to be rewritten because Justin wrote it when he didn't know java. It would be a horrible idea to add on a junior developer to add even more low quality code while its in the middle of rewriting. It would be hard to keep up.
    2) Finances: A Sr Developer would expect money. There is not enough income on EMC to pay a salary of a developer (If it was, I would be able to work on EMC full time....)
    3) Business: Even if there was finances, you don't want to stress yourself on spending to the point it matches or exceeds your income. That's not good business. If we did that, EMC might not be able to pay its bills / keep up with new demands / do any marketing - then EMC would fall.
    4) IP: There also has to be trust levels to protect EMC's code. We wouldn't want to just pick random people off the internet we don't know then hand over EMC's code...

If I see room for a new developer to help me, then I will pursue it, but its not as clear cut as "get new blood" like it is on an open source project.

Sounds like a decent idea, post it to the suggestions forum :)

Spleef is something that can already be done purely player ran on SMP3 /fun. For a "Staff sponsored" event all we would be doing is saying "hey, you should come on here", and then we stand there / participate.

This can be nice sometimes, but this is something the community can take initiative at too. Mob arena HAS to be ran by staff currently.
