First: Do enchanted books sell successfully at shops? ...or are players mainly looking for power tools? Next: Is there a guide for what max enchantment books go for? I believe this is a list of all enchanted books with max levels. Sweeping Edge III Fire Aspect II Knockback II Smite V Sharpness V Looting III Bane of Arthropods V Infinity Punch II Power V Flame Efficiency V Unbreaking III Silk Touch Fortune III Lure III Luck of the Sea III Aqua Affinity Respiration III Protection IV Blast Protection IV Fire Protection IV Projectile Protection IV Thorns III Depth Strider III Frost Walker II Feather Falling IV Curse of Binding Curse of Vanishing Mending Lastley: Is there any more value in enchanted books with multiple enchantments, beyond what the normal max enchantment?
I know other players advertise and run more successful enchant shops than I do, but I have a mostly full set of pricings. I'm missing the curses and sweeping edge, but you can come to my shop and see my prices. Address is in my footer.
I like to buy the books as it's cheaper then the tools. I always go to +bird on smp7 when I need books as every book is there and it's always instock. Those are the 3 main keys. Always stocked Cheap prices Every book ~Finch
I try to undersell my enchanted books just by a teeny bit... save for Sweeping Edge III, because of the hype surrounding that enchantment since the 1.11.2 update. All my other books are reasonable prices, including Mending (which I sell for 200r, I believe). As finchy stated, it's also good to make sure you're always stocked. Fortunately, I have the means to keep them stocked from my own personal trading plaza, simply +plaza on smp8. However, I give other people villager trading perms on +plaza as well, to give people the choice of whether they want to buy from my shop or trade with my villagers, and in both cases I strive to keep my enchanted book prices low. c: If you want to compare prices, or simply check out +deptstore or +plaza to see what it has to offer, then you're more than welcome to and I hope everything helps. Tbh, I agree it'd be nice if a price guide for just the enchbooks existed Good luck!
Then that's what my +plaza on smp8 is for xD You (and anyone else) are more than welcome to use it for book trading
I think keeping stock is the most important, I recommend starting high(500-2000) and then lowering as you get overstock and better trades. This also gives you enough leadway to buy from others for resale if you need. It's amazing how many empty bookshops I've seen on emc
Hey, it's not my fault that people don't know how trading works and keep my villagers' trades locked because they're too lazy to unlock them. -3- (I see this a lot at Pigmentus as well)
Thanks everyone for helping out. I compiled a list with prices from a couple of shops. I can publish it here if you think it's appropriate. I think I'll price my books at the upper end to keep stock under control and avoid too much competition.
my book prices are based on the value or cost of emeralds per book and rarity of the item at the time of manufacture. As emerald prices can go up and down prices can vary so its always best to look around at what other shops sell them for and if they are in stock as Finch mentioned. Smp 6 /v 13131 and /v 12221 shops are some to you can look at.
Some of this may go to supply and demand by server on shop stock and active players looking. If you are willing to hop servers I've seen good and bad prices. I do really agree with those above, eg: Silken_thread, the cost of the emeralds is kind of the driver for these and I would put those at 14-20r per (based on recent auctions and store pricing) right now. Since each trade can vary, an average is likely fair, so I figure from 200-600 will be the fair range per book but I am planning on trying to sell each from 300-400 each in my shop. It will not be a big money maker but having accessible enchants for everyone is more important. The real concern I have is just more keeping it supplied if you go to low as it would create a lot of extra work. Note: I generally auction the tools enchanted which tend to sell better in my opinion. I'm not sure how shop sales go on pre-enchanted vs the books for self enchanting. I know the price difference is huge. EG: books to do a max pick axe may be 1500-2000r but buying one is normally 4-5k with everything on it.
The results are in. Here's a list of enchantment books at the prices I've found at 3 locations. Missing numbers means they didn't have the book or I couldn't find it in the shop. I did not check quantity or inventory on hand. My other question from earlier... Is there any greater value in an enchanted book with multiple enchantments? For example, I have a book with Projectile Protection IV and Sharpness III. Others have different attributes (up to four), but no two attributes apply to the same tool. So Knockback and Fire Aspect would not be a combination. When you use it, you choose which enchantment you want based on the tool you place in the anvil. I used to get these in the wild a couple of years ago, but I haven't seen them appear lately. Is there any value in these other than the normal enchantment value? 403-6v Sweeping Edge III - ,400, 403-6a Fire Aspect II - 270,,1500 403-60 Knockback II - 270,350,1000 403-5f Smite V - 400,450, 403-55 Sharpness V - 400,400, 403-6l Looting III - 350,400,2200 403-5p Bane of Arthropods V - 400,500, 403-fv Infinity - 150,300,600 403-fc Punch II - 250,300, 403-f5 Power V - 400,400,2000 403-fl Flame - 150,600, 403-a5 Efficiency V - 600,600,3000 403-an Unbreaking III - 350,350,1200 403-ab Silk Touch - 150,200,500 403-b1 Fortune III - 330,400,1100 403-jf Lure III - 400,400 403-j5 Luck of the Sea III - 400,400 403-u1 Aqua Affinity - 180,300,600 403-tp Respiration III - 360,450,1100 403-s8 Protection IV - 400,400,2000 403-t6 Blast Protection IV - 400,400, 403-si Fire Protection IV - 400,400, 403-tg Projectile Protection IV - 400, 403-ud Thorns III - 330,400,2500 403-un Depth Strider III - 420,500,1200 403-v0 Frost Walker II - 500,500,2400 403-ss Feather Falling IV - 700,350, 403-35 Curse of Binding - ,250, 403-m7 Curse of Vanishing - ,250, 403-lt Mending - 300,700,1200
I would say that if you have a book with "more than one enchant" both at the max for that enchant on one book should equate to a slightly higher value because it is 2 for 1. The issues many times with multiple is either as you noted, some can't be applied many times and sometimes the others may not be the max for that enchant type. Like Power II or Unbreaking II. Books are hit and miss, some places have lower prices and other places have higher and sell. I find a lot of times that the books I want are out of stock. I think you need to shop your SMP well, then determine your pricing that way. Most active players will jump servers looking for the best deals though, so still need to make it not worth their time to do that.
