Question: Frontier

Discussion in 'Community Discussion' started by ZombieInstinct, Dec 26, 2016.

  1. Hello! I'm pretty new to this server, so I'm still trying to memorize all the rules. I have a few questions regarding the Frontier, if a staff member or an experienced member could answer that'd be awesome!

Anyways, I was wondering regarding buildings people built in the Frontier. There's an area where people have built a few buildings, but the buildings are half destroyed. By the looks of it, they haven't been used in a long period of time. I was wondering if we are able to take over this place, if they're inactive for a period of time? By "take over" I mean remove their half destroyed buildings and start building there. Do we need a mod's confirmation?

Also, I remember seeing a rule regarding the minimum building distance from a base, what's the block distance?

Thanks in advance to anyone that replies!

  2. Even over 800 days here, I still don't know the clear answer to that first question. Wish I could help, but I'm as clueless as you are :p

If you're looking to establish a base, then your build needs to be at least a certain number of blocks away from both an outpost and other bases. I'll pull up that link in a second. Basically, you have to open /map and find your base on the map and make sure that it's the listed distance from any other visible builds.

    Cheers :)

  3. If you see a half destroyed structure, don't touch them, unless you get a mod's permission to touch them, which is unlikely. The player who built that may come back and fix it, or just may not have visited it in a long time.
  4. from what i remember it was 3 or 5k from any other base

  5. Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing anything to them unless I got the okay from a Mod.

Dufne posted a link to the post regarding the space, it's 3k blocks. Thanks!
  6. I guess I am a little late, and contacting a mod about this and see what they say would be a good idea, so welcome!
  7. No worries, the thought that counts! Also, how would I go about contacting a Mod? Should I try in game or their support system on this site? or is there another way to do so? Thanks!

  8. Go ahead and private message them via site. You can go the profile page of a mod that is online, and click "Start Conversation". Let me know if you need anymore help!

  10. I wouldnt touch the structures. They've been damaged for months, maybe even a year or more.
As far as making it your outpost, no can do. I had 2 players who owned an outpost and were perm banned. I had to move my outpost so it wasn't touching theirs. They still laid claim to that land.

  11. Awh, that's pretty lame. Thanks for the info, hopefully a mod will have mercy on us if it is a established outpost.

  12. Hey there Zombie! Just some clarification:
As the others mentioned above, you can get one of us to check out the location - general rule of thumb is if the area has not been used in 6 months it is considered derelict and you would most likely be able to build there. As ttyler mentioned it gets a little more tricky if the area is an Established Outpost that may have multiple members. Also keep in mind some players actually WANT a place to look abandoned and broken to hide their real base underneath.

Second part of your question - to establish your own outpost, you need to be 3k from another settlement and 5k from the nearest spawn. Hope this helps, and if you see me in game please grab me and I will come look at the area for you. :)

Any other inquiries my inbox is always open,

  13. Hello. Thanks for the reply! I pm'd you with the details prior to your post, if that was a coincidence (as there's a bunch of Mod's) we're fated for each other! :) Anyways all jokes aside, will you be able to check it out for me? Thanks a bunch!
  14. My 2 cents for what they are worth on establishing your outpost -
Hunt around on live map for an area that's still blacked out or has no visible structures in a 3000x3000 area. Check the direction and write down the center coords. Divide the x and z coords by 8. Hop into the nether with some picks, some chests, obsidian, and a lighter (plus the usual nether gear - weapons, etc). Make a tunnel up top or down bottom to your divided by 8 coords. Build a portal. Go overworld side, lock a chest, set a bed, put in a claim, and build your stuffs. You now also have your convenient nether rail/ice boat tunnel started for future easy faster transport to/from town.

That's a pretty safe way to get an area all your own that you know no one else has a prior claim to/at.

I know it can feel frustrating with how the claiming works when it's obvious no one has been at a wrecked hovel in ages. However, those banned players may still have an appeal window open to them, they may be on hiatus, etc. There are lots of reasons people may be gone for a long time. EMC keeps their stuff protected for an insanely long time, and it's good of EMC to do so. It would probably be cheaper and easier for EMC to not do that, so look at it as a positive :) Your builds will still be here when you someday return if you need to go --poof-- for some time.

Also, don't forget to use /bmode while working on your frontier builds. That will protect all the blocks you place for you and your friends list. You have to type that each time you log in or return to your outpost from town.

  15. Well I wish I could give you two cents. Thanks for the info, I'll be sure to try that; unfortunately we cannot establish an outpost at the area we wanted to. But that's fine, as we'll probably continue our search for a more secluded area. The info you provided with the nether I don't quite understand, but when we find a place I'll be sure to ask questions if/when we decide to establish one. Thanks!

Also, thanks Eviltoade once again for your time and help, I really appreciate it!

  18. Haha just saw this, immediately did it after. ;) Think I found a new place with nothing insight (that I can see atleast) went to a blacked out area, still hasn't rendered in though on my map /: even tried refreshing it.
  19. If it's blacked out on live map that means it's unexplored. No player has been there before you. It sometimes takes live map a bit to update though with the fact that YOU are now there LOL.

No 2 cents required haha Toade <3 and thx Zombie!

EDIT: Oh, the nether thing. In the frontier, the nether compresses distances. One block in the nether = 8 blocks in the overworld (the exception is the Y coord - height - that's the same). That's where the "divide by 8" trick comes into play. If you're already there on the overworld side though, you don't need to use it. Build your nether portal overworld side instead, and then cut yourself a shortcut through the nether back to a spawn point. In the nether frontier, only Center (aka Main) is marked. There are normally portals at the cardinal points though too. Plus, soon EMC is going to provide the 10k etc spawns. Well, "soon-ish" we can hope! ;)
