  1. ...people quote the person they're outbidding in an auction.

It seems to me like a really terrible thing to do. If you're trying to win an auction, it's never good to quote anybody except the auction host when bidding. It benefits them and is detrimental to you.

When you quote somebody's bid and outbid them, you're alerting them that they're outbid, which encourages them to bid more if they want the item. If the person forgot about the auction, chances are you just reminded them and will either lose the auction or have to pay much more for it.

If people find themselves being outbid, that's great. Just don't encourage them to outbid you by quoting their post.

Also, on the flip side of that, if you're the host, go for it. I usually quote the recent bidders of my auctions when bumping once or twice so they know they've been outbid if they weren't following the thread. Heck, I even managed to snag 10k more because of that strategy. :P

  3. What is the difference between 10k and 10K and why is it even important?

  5. Yeah, that's what I thought, haha.
  6. You over think to much mr.penguin ppl are gonna get alerted no mater so why not have fun with it and quote them with a funny come back?
  7. I thought whenever you post on a thread (auction or otherwise), you automatically get notifications of further posts to that thread. The only time I click on watch thread is when I dont post but want to know about further posts on a thread. Am I missing something?

  8. Well, if you haven't viewed a thread in a while or you begin to ignore the alerts, the site stops sending you alerts unless someone replies to/likes your comment.

  9. You have it set up where you automatically watch threads that you reply to. I personally turn that off and manually watch all auctions, my threads, and a few others. I'd get too many alerts if I had that on. :P

You can change that setting at http://empireminecraft.com/account/preferences
Not everyone watches the threads they bid on. If they're going to see it, there's no need to quote anyway, and if they wouldn't have, a quote alerts them to it. There are no benefits to it.

  10. Thank you for explaining this to me. :)

  11. Thanks for the explanation! :)
  12. Well if you reply to the auction it alerts them anyways soooo
  13. That's only if people watch the thread, and not everyone does that.

  14. Ok, so suddenly doing something fun is a bad thing because it does what a forum post would already do? Yah, I sure don't see your logic. Not that I ever do.
  15. Doesn't is automatically do that?

Copy-pasted from above. I thought more people knew about that, to be honest...
  17. Why not? What happens if I want competition and enjoy the thrill from it?
  18. There's nothing 'fun' about simply quoting a post. Quoting a post can lead to you being outbid, where as just posting doesn't alert the other bidder (unless they have the thread watched). It's not a sudden thing; it's always been like this. It's just the first I (or anyone) is posting about it.

The discussions that occasionally come with bids can obviously continue, that's up to the players doing the bidding. I see nothing 'wrong' with it from an outside standpoint. If players wish to take the extra unnecessary risk of being outbid, they can. I'm not going to try to stop that.

The entire thread was posted as a question, too.

If you want to possibly waste money, go right ahead. ;-)
  20. I quote them if i just want to raise the price of auction but not actually win...
I also do it when there has been invalids bids, so there is a reference to which bid was the last valid bid
