[Suggestion] rupee blocks

Discussion in 'Suggestion Box Archives' started by JesusPower2, Oct 29, 2015.

  1. what:
Three staff created EMC special items, (renamed blocks?), which EMC Shop will buy/sell at fixed rates. Perhaps 100k, 10k, 1k.

    why:
Shopkeepers on EMC have trouble managing balance. A mistake on a sign could cost hundreds of thousands. Restocking is inconsistent so shop keepers must float a large amount of rupees to cover costs. This makes it impossible to bid on auctions or have safety over balance amounts. (Most players I know juggle rupees between alts that they use as banks.)

    pros:
[edit] Allows safe keeping of rupee balance.
Can be given at drop parties.
Can be used as player contest prizes.
    Can be auto dispensed/droppered.
Can be put into a chest or mailed for a meaningful surprise gift.
Outposts can use them to pool funds for project expansions.
    [edit2] Requires no developer time

    cons:
    No transaction history.
May cause drama if friends steal them from your res.
Can it be soul bound if it's a block? Does it have to be a block?
  2. hmm +1 but I agree, lots and lots of drama could be started off of this

  3. -EMC Shop is not designed to sell to.
-This would be making an alternative currency that is easy to misplace/lose and most players lose things quite frequently.
-This prevents staff from being able to moderate auctions when/if the player has enough rupees to place a bid as it is essentially hiding rupees in chests, etc.
-Drop parties currently use books to be turned in for rupees.
-Rupees transactions are clear and controlled in the logs.
-You can pool funds by just /r pay too...
  4. 1) By 'not designed to' do you mean isn't able to or isn't desired to? Guessing the former but hoping the latter.
    2) I don't see any increased risk over say buying diamond blocks which players do today.
    3) Again this doesn't have to be different from owning any other kind of block. e.g. Staff should continue doing whatever they do today which is no enforcement? (oh snap lol, sorry staff!)
    4) Hm, I've only ever gotten seeds and iron from drop parties. If I print books as 100k vouchers and give them to players, do I run afoul of the "no banks no loans" rule?
    5) Agreed.
    6) Yeah. Just hoping to create a solution for some groups I've seen asking for shared balance/banks.

I'd much prefer having a bank command, even if that simply meant "ignore for shop signs." But I thought that was a long ways out because it required dev time.

    Anyhow thanks for the feedback.
  5. 1. Aikar question, but I believe it works, it just is wonky.
    2. Some players don't do that, but I get enough reports over it...
    3. We enforce. Ask those that get marketplace banned.
    4. Many players do that. Not a loan if it's a prize.
    5. Agreed. =P
    6. A bank command would be better than having a physical block and a whole lot less messy.
  6. I have seen empire shops you can sell to in the past, like Max's dirt destroyer.
  7. Seems similar to a paper currency that was suggested a while back. I like the idea of being able to convert rupees into paper.
-EMC Shop is not designed to sell to.
    But it could, correct?
-This would be making an alternative currency that is easy to misplace/lose and most players lose things quite frequently.
I could misplace lots of things more valuable than rupees. I don't think a player's disorganization should be taken into consideration in this. :p
-This prevents staff from being able to moderate auctions when/if the player has enough rupees to place a bid as it is essentially hiding rupees in chests, etc.
Simple rule change: the rupees used to bid must be in liquid (is that the right word?) form.
-Drop parties currently use books to be turned in for rupees.
Vouchers would be easier to use than books.
-Rupees transactions are clear and controlled in the logs.
That, in my opinion, is the main reason why this isn't a good idea. The possibility to scam is extremely high. However, the staff could warn players to only use /r pay and to not use the paper/blocks as currency themselves.
-You can pool funds by just /r pay too...
Some players do not have alts to do so.
    1) By 'not designed to' do you mean isn't able to or isn't desired to? Guessing the former but hoping the latter.
I'm guessing that it's completely possible, but not intended.
    2) I don't see any increased risk over say buying diamond blocks which players do today.
    Agreed.
    3) Again this doesn't have to be different from owning any other kind of block. e.g. Staff should continue doing whatever they do today which is no enforcement? (oh snap lol, sorry staff!)
As the blocks/paper would be actual currency, players would be more inclined to trade with those than other items. See what I said above.
    4) Hm, I've only ever gotten seeds and iron from drop parties. If I print books as 100k vouchers and give them to players, do I run afoul of the "no banks no loans" rule?
No, they're not loans as you'd make no profit and you're only giving away rupees.

So the main purpose of these rupee blocks is to provide not an alternative currency, but a way for shop owners to pool money together, and to allow current shop keepers to manage their funds easier without an alt? I have a different suggestion that could work better than this one (sorry! ;))

And I just saw Krysyy suggested a bank command... ninja. :p
I have a few ideas. I'm working on a suggestion for that here.
  8. I do argee with cryssy, at the moment I am useing my sister's accound so reserve rupees, but I whould be happy when I could have thease rupees just at jelle68 :D

  10. Could you elaborate on 'realistic'?
  11. It wouldn't really be a second currency. It'd be a tangible form of rupees. Like /r pay would be just as a debit card payment in real life and cash would be its tangible form which in this case it would be a block or voucher.

Then again, this wouldn't be efficient nor safe. The only reason of why I would have Rupee Blocks instead of rupees themselves would be to put them around and show off.

A bank system would be a much better idea as penguin said.

  12. I agree, it is better. But maybe I disagree on who said it? ;)

  13. Such a thing is surely impossible! Nobody can ever disagree with me, I make too much sense!

  14. More realistic in the scene that, it would be approved by aikar.
