Most auctions were hitting 150. You are correct tho 100k is the low average price now. 80k is too low, it has hit that low but almost always breaks 100k. Most auctions are 120k. However, 150 to 180k is quartz blocks. I used to sell a DC of Obby for 200k and up when I first started. 250k was an average price then. It's all in supply and demand. Right now EvilToade wants to build a gold farm. You could see him wanting a bunch of it driving it to 150 or more. Again it's when people want it.
I am surprised it is going that high since 1.9. I could get a DC in 3 hours at most. At 120K that's 40K an hour. I could be in the wrong line of work.
Beacon with speed 2, Haste 2, Mineral mincer or better, head to the end. Find towers still up and not robbed. Pretty sure that's how it can be done but still is way to fast. I'd like to know as well. I do know that is how it's being done now and that's why prices plummeted. Quartz rose higher because of hounds and cannot be farmed like Obby. Edit: Macros can do that and that is bannable. Yikes!!
For obsidian, I just bring a mincer to mining events. Efficiency 8 + Haste 3 breaks them in just a few seconds.
Mining events you need lots of water to make the Obby. No doubt it's quick but can you make a DC in 3 hours?
I see how but can be dangerous and blocks do get lost if they spin off wrong. I did learn how to mine the lakes so loss can be low. I prefer my DC making machine. Simple safe and I harvest at my res.
Still Based off of finding 1 perfect spot where you may take hours to find that spot as well Slow steady and consistency will out perform that method in the long run I believe.
What I tend to do is ask around. By the time I get out there, somebody's usually found at least one, and when I finish with the first one, I ask around, since a second one has most likely been discovered, and I just keep repeating that until I have however much I need. Also, out of curiosity, how can you reliably make an obsidian farm in town? The redstone thing got removed awhile ago, and the only method I can think of would use more lava than is remotely possible.

I wanted to point out that Breezyman must really be up to something big as he has won half the Obsidian DC Auctions this year From what I can tell it seems to be trending down, and that must be due to the methods I have recently seen discussed above which make it easier to obtain these days. Sure, tell everyone it is worth 150k....I bet the market would become flooded, and take the price even lower. Not that I don't mind a more economical purchase of an Obsidian DC.
