Minecraft Scam Convention

Discussion in 'General Minecraft Discussion' started by wisepsn, Mar 26, 2014.

  1. Well all that happened kind of goes to show that the event wasn't legit. . . He clearly did not take the measures to make the event run smoothly (half the event happens before it starts: the setup). For $50 a ticket, I mean, c'mon. The evidence still stands against him until he makes a proper refund as was promised. I would never sympathize with the event host if all he did was pocket the money from the event, whether it was a scam or just a mere failure on his part. If he failed to host a proper event, why should he be able to gain? He lost a lot is what it seems: the props and his truck. That shouldn't cost 45k of pocket change, though. . . All the prize items together could not have been more than 10k. So what happened to the 45k? I guess we'll find out, but it certainly isn't where it belongs right now.
  2. Just saying, anyone can write a total BS apology with all sorts of claims that have no evidence.
  3. Could not STAND listening to this dude talk so just read the links and went to the facebook page. It's gotten so stupid on that page, all the parents are now raging at each other and claiming to be working behind the scenes with Mojang and some other stuff. >.> Lord.

    Just read the post people.
I even stated that he might be lying. Although after typing something like that, I wouldn't think so.
Unfortunately it probably ruined a few of the kids who attended hopes.
At first I was angry too, but I read all of that apology and I think otherwise now.

  6. This doesn't excuse his actions, however. I doubt that anyone here has "jumped to conclusions", and besides the guy is old enough, he should have been able to predict the repercussions.

  7. Here's a link to the host's explanation: http://www.motmfl.com/

Compare these pictures with the pictures that were posted by unhappy people: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/...073741859.132225683650229&type=1&notif_t=like

I find the part in the host's explanation of the scavenger hunt especially believable and revealing. They had set up a scavenger hunt with a game console as a prize. When it started everyone went berserk tore the place up WalMart-Christmas Eve style. I'm guessing it looked something like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rw57XulHadY

The hosts bit off more than they could chew. They were amateurs running an event that people expected more from, probably because of the price. Add to that a bunch of parents and kids.

The truth probably lies somewhere in the middle.
  8. Read the apology. -.-
All I was saying that it wasn't his fault completely. People took it upon themselves to not help him. From the people who loaned him the venue to attendees.

  9. I think you misinterpreted my previous comment. I was merely attempting to point out that, as you say, he isn't completely guilty, nor is he completely innocent.

  10. That doesn't mean you lie and say Nickelodeon and companys are sponsoring you. ;_;
  11. Well, it seems like the apology wasn't true. You have no proof that he actually did lose his truck and props for this, plus, anybody can easily lie on the internet. The internet is full of lies. Besides, whether or not his truck and props were stolen, there was still the "promised" $1000 prize that he never gave away. If everything was stolen and the convention was crap, the least a person could do if he was telling the truth about it was give away the $1000 prize. Also, it would be hard to cover up the lies about the sponsors that had no idea about this. Nickelodeon and Redbull and those other companies have nothing to do with Minecraft, and if they were sponsoring an event like this, there would undoubtedly be commercials advertising it or at least something on their websites about it. I'm not necessarily saying that he was lying about the whole thing or that the apology wasn't sincere, but there's a lot of evidence against it and it seems like his apology didn't cover everything.

  12. I went to this event. Best Minecon ever. I even got a Minecraft cape.

  13. He only explained why he should be legally innocent. There were many grammatical errors and he did not mention the fake sponsors.

I would have posted his message, but I cannot have a message with over 10,000 charachters. :p

  15. I know I already posted about this, but I read and learned more about it, so I have to explain to those of you who believe his apology why it could be fake.
No matter what he tries to explain, he can only easily cover for the missing merchandise and prizes. There's virtually no way this guy could cover for the promise of instantly becoming a famous youtuber. It just doesn't work that way. You can't become famous on youtube if there's nothing to follow or no videos to watch. Nobody would subscribe to a channel because of a channel name.
Another thing to be really hard to cover for is the money that he promised that people didn't get. What would he say? He ran out of money and cancelled the checks because of that? No, he can't say that. He made an easy 45k from that scam and there's no way he could cover for having to cancel the people's checks and cash prizes he owed the people.
All I'm saying is, the more I read about this, the harder I find it to believe his apology. Some of this stuff is impossible to cover for.
  16. I think some of you think I am wanting weird justice or something. I read his whole apology, it had many holes and didn't really explain on how everything worked. What I want this guy is to get a huge bill to pay. I don't really necessarily believe he should go to jail, but he got a easy 45 grand from that convention, he needs to pay up. He lied saying Nickelodeon was sponsoring. He forgot many stuff.

  19. In the guys explanation he said he did by the stuff. But here's my question. WHY DIDN'T HE GIVE THEM OUT! (Sorry about the caps I'm just realy angered by this hole thing.)

  20. Meh, I doubt anybody will know the entire truth. I am waiting for videos to come out!
Cmon, with all these people, no video of what was 'disappointing'?
Heck, if they set this up ahead of time...I would like to see pictures of their set up before they opened the event, and then after the event. Also, with 'staff' around, they would leave areas unattended for the 'guests' to run amuck?
Hard to believe that they would not have people there to watch areas, and if people are unruly, you kindly ask them to stop, or they will be escorted from the premises.

I missed how many people purchased tickets. If it was $45,000...this equates to 900 people attending.
Now factor in the costs of food, drink, renting the building, etc... so cut it in half.
Leaves 22,500. Then whoever you need to hire, insurance, and all else to cover the event.

It is true that anybody can sue at any time for anything.
Does not mean that there are merits to the complaint.
In order to lodge a legal complaint, you would be paying much more than 50 bucks.
Heck an attorney would laugh you out of the office if you tried to sue to recover 50 bucks.
Indeed there is small claims court, but then again, you would have to prove damages to show that you have standing.
Also, you have to PROVE all of your claims with facts, not 'say so' or 'internet rumors'.

Let this be a lesson...learn from others mistakes.
