Is gambling banned?

  1. Because we are not done yet.... and it is being handled on a server by server basis depending on who is cheating and who is playing fair. If you have not heard from us then GOOD JOB :)
  2. Well, until your previous post, I was unaware that gambling was officially banned. Even if it's just something temporary, I feel that this is a topic that should have been covered by an admin or mod in an official message to the community.

  3. I have to wonder why the big obsession with gambling ...in Minecraft... a game about mining, building, adventuring, and surviving.

Yes, we will be putting some solid limitations on gambling and lotteries, and we are doing this because these forms of gaming have been grossly abused by some people. And since it's something people seem to want to participate in spite of it evidently being generally a recipe for getting scammed, we will likely be allowing it in a limited form.

Until then, go mine or build something nice.

  5. Yes Brandop, your games I have tried and consider as 'games' as opposed to gambling.

Your roulette game is like a 'match it' game. If a player buys green wool to use as their 'bet' and the dispenser dispenses green wool. You have won and double your prize. If it is different colour you lose and lose your initial prize.

Your slot machine game is like a lucky dip. You buy a ticket and pull a level and 4 dispensers spit out random items. If you win diamonds you get to keep them.

Although I have deemed your games as fair, as you have labelleled rules and chances of winning, it may be best to put the games on hold for the next few days until we set up some official guidelines and posted them. This will prevent anybody accusing you of playing lotteries and gambling in the meantime. :)
  6. you dont keep the diamonds u get money for the amount of diamonds that come out.
  7. Ahh, i didn't read the signs well enough :p
I still consider them fair, but please place a hold on them until we have posted guidelines to the forums.
I am sure they will pass restrictions though after seeing them first hand :)
  8. I am with Liz... WHY do we have to have all this gambling and such in a BUILD and Mine and Survive Game? I do not like the fact that it is promoting this behavior when we have children as young as 8 and 9 years old in this game. The legal age of gambling in every state that I know of is 18....
    Sad the reality is.
  9. The reason gambling works in the real world is that the Casino (or other host) has far too much to lose if his / her enterprise is registered as a scam. A real Casino or Gambling Operation costs an extreme amount to get going, along the lines of advertising, building the area and acquiring the machines. Nobody would want to make an "impossible" Casino in real life, because it would ruin all their profits. In a game such as Minecraft, there are no deadlines to meet, no bills to pay and no counterfeit currency to police. It's all just really simple which makes it an easy way to (potentially) get a large amount of in-game currency. When a player actually sets up a good gambling rig, it has taken significantly more time and effort to get the area to a presentable state, and thus the player is less inclined to be a scammer as to risk being banned.

    But wait
We can't ban scammers easily, they are among the most difficult people for us to catch.

So does that mean there is, among other things, very little incentive to be fair? If your in-game gambling operation is accused of being a scam, what does this mean to you? If it happens in real life, it means you're obviously doing something wrong and you have to fix it FAST before you lose all your money.

But nobody in-game has this kind of incentive to keep a trustworthy status.
And it would be very difficult for the staff to provide this incentive.

And until we find a way to either catch scammers easier, provide the previously mentioned "incentive" or simply inform players what is and is not against the rules (I'm sure a lot of them do not know they are scamming players) it would not be logical to allow any form of lotteries or gambling. Down the road, when we (Dark_Liz) formulate our clever plans as to what should and should not be allowed, people will maybe be allowed to gamble again..

    I still don't support it though. ;)

  10. I think its fine because its just for fun and to make a little cash on the side.
  11. Well so far I see 3 mods in direct opposition and all mods saying shut them down until further notice. This shall be my stand until further notice as well. Stop them all until we iron this out and you get an official outline of what you can and cannot do.
  12. I have a lucky dip but it has NO dirt, just dyes.
  13. Don't worry, personally I'm okay with it, but some people have been scamming. We're going to release a set of rules to protect the players, both sellers and buyers of the games. Just hold off with yours for a little while until then. It'll help us out a lot as we won't get a ton of, "But so and so has his up." Complaints? Cool? :)
  14. can i put my slot things as a lucky dip? lol
  15. I understand mods, thanks for clarifying the issue :)
  16. Oh thanks R0bbieJo I was unsure and now it is all clarified! :)
  17. Wont it be a very difficult job for you guys to keep control over? most, if not all, gambling games use a dispenser which spits out an item/s. I cant see a way for you to moderate everyone's dispenser without some kind of plugin (if it exists). People can either remove the winning items from their dispenser or display incorrect odds.
I think there should be a section in the Empire guide that states "gamble at your own risk as the chances of you being ripped off are great" and be done with it, then if anyone gets ripped off they only have themselves to blame.
Its a shame that a certain percentage of the community are ripping off others as it is an enjoyable way to spend a little time inbetween mining and stuff. But then again maybe it would be for the best as i have seen players on here as young as 9 and it has to be a bad influence on them.
Also i'm very happy that the mods and admins are taking this so seriously to ensure empireminecraft stays a fair and enjoyable place
    Empireminecraft ftw :D
  18. drats was starting to build a casino in my commerce center. there goes that idea
  19. FooHundred, I am VERY impressed with You! As a Mod and as a mother I find your thought processes well thought out and right on track. Just wanted to give you a thumbs up! We need more of you here. :)
As for the risks and such, after we get done doing what we have been given no other choice to do, they will be complaining to the wind because they now KNOW the risks. We always catch blatant abusers sooner or later and they are removed from this wonderful community for good. It is a shame that we have to do this yes, but we love our players and our little ones THIS much, so we do what we have to in order to keep them protected. :)
