It looks like this is in the Wild. I would probably just strip mine the surrounding area below ground and save the cobble from that. There should be plenty of coal there for smelting. If you want to preserve the area below it or don't want to mine, I'd build a Stone generator rather than Cobble, since it mines slightly faster and gives you the option of using Silk Touch for the stone.
Great advise thanks loads I am stripping the land just under the dirt for stone i'm finding tons of ore and coal under it just takes a while considering i have used so much and no where near finishing
